Mounting Flanges On Aftermarket Electronics; Who Uses Them?

I wanna know. Who actually drills holes, and screws down aftermarket electronics? I use double sided tape at most. Most of the time I just place the box somewhere. The only thing I've ever screwed down is a fuse block. Oh and amps don't count. I'm talkin' 'bout plastic boxes with electronics in 'em and connectors coming out of 'em and that have flanges on... 'em. So tell me.

No opinions? That's a first.

I mounted my alarm box right over the top of my add-on VATS module in the cubby on the main duct behind my dash when I redid my dash wiring. With screws (they share 2 mounting screws). I also had mounted my first amp in the rear locking compartment, to the wheel well flange, with screws (the amp didn't work, so it was removed). I'll have my in-car PC mounted back there when I get around to getting it.

Re: Mounting Flanges On Aftermarket Electronics; Who Uses Them?

I guess I would mount an alarm correctly. Amps get bolted down for sure. I have two and they are fully secured.

I have an RFID doohickey that I just placed under the dash pad and ran the antenna up the back of the seat. The DEI 530T module I have is just laying under the passenger seat right now. I don't know if I will bolt it down or just use double sided tape. I don't have an interior right now so there isn't anywhere to secure it yet.

I dunno. I feel like it might look more professional if I were to screw/bolt everything down, but there aren't too many places that are practical to do so. Firstly, you need a flat spot that is big enough and secondly, who wants to go drilling tons of holes in their car? Also, the modules are hidden from view. Unless someone is taking my car apart, they won't know the difference.

I'm probably making too big a deal out of this, but I am curious. Any more input, y'all?

Edit: And my carputer is definitely getting fully secured, too.

The alarm used to be floating around above the steering column. I put an end to that because it and its wiring was in the way of everything down there. Plus, being where it is means that a thief can't just smash it and assume the car isn't sounding off (I've heard that one of the first things a thief does is smash the alarm brain to shut it up) because there is literally no space in there. But, the guys who put the alarm in used velcro to attach the 2-way antenna above the mirror on the windshield.
