Throttle position Sensor - low voltage

Hey all, still plagued with this problem of low voltage across the TPS "A" & "B" terminals. I get the full 5 volts on the grey "C" wire, and my ground black "A" wire is good (no voltage leakage on ground). This is the 2nd replacement TPS exibiting the same symptoms. Maxing out the rotation of the idle TPS adjustment, the best I can do is .33 volts, no where near the .54 stock setting. WOT reads only .48 volts. This is a brand new Painless harness we just installed connected to a 165 ECM, we got the same readings with the old harness. The old harness was so hacked, I couldn't figure out how the car even ran. I have a handle on it now. Car is a 92 RS TBI and (by previous owner) had been converted to TPI. It runs well most of the time, but keeps throwing TPS-low voltage code and engine will occassionally cut out (stall) all together.

Please point me in the right direction, I'm pulling my hair out.

Jay

Re: Throttle position Sensor - low voltage

Updating to issue. I've been doing some reading around the site and I posit this question....A TBI TPS and TPI TPS look identical but are internally wired oposite. Could the effect I'm getting above, be the result of having a TBI TPS hooked up in a TPI setup? Anyone know the part numbers for each kind of TPS so I can confirm. I'm wondering if the parts guy gave me the wrong part.

With the side of the TPS that engages the throttle shaft facing toward you and you use a wide screwdriver to turn the center part, doesn't a TBI one turn to the right, and a TPI one turn to the left? I've seen some that look the same, but turn opposite ways. Is that the deal here?

Re: Throttle position Sensor - low voltage

I just checked both the old one and the new one and they both turn counter-clockwise (to the left). Some I'm not sure which one I have unless you're sure of the rotation.

Here are the numbers on each TPS sensor - old one brand CTS 69537 C2967 on the new one, no name, just 1542137.

Re: Throttle position Sensor - low voltage

I really don't know hardly anything about TPI, but I know TBI ones turn clockwise. I don't even know where I saw the ones that turned counter-clockwise. Most likely JY where I look at all kinds of stuff out of curiosity. All the original ones had the letters CTS on them, but I have no idea what that might indicate. Sorry about that.

Re: Throttle position Sensor - low voltage

Thanks for the confirmation of the TBI anyway. I clearly do not have one of those, so I am assuming I have the correct TPS. Now have to get back to figuring out why the low voltage. Anyone?

Re: Throttle position Sensor - low voltage

I just bought two off ebay, and neither one worked. They looked identical to my old sensor, but when installed. they started up near 5.0v and as the throttle was opened, it went down to near 0.0v. I sent them back for a refund and I guess I will just bite the bullet and get an acdelco one from tpi parts or something since both of these "standard motor products" units seems to be wired wrong internally. I'll let you know how it goes when I get the refund and buy the correct one. My old one would start to steadily drop voltage at idle and the ecm kept throwing a code for tps voltage. The car would idle around 1500, run rich as hell and never come out of open loop. Rock auto sells an acdelco sensor with the same part number for TPI and TBI so be careful there too, seems like there is a lot of confusion concerning which sensor is which.
