Center brake light - lamps?
Couple of the light bulbs burned out in my center stop light, this in my 88 with it mounted in the spoiler. Looked in the owner's manual and it calls for a # 906 lamp. Completely different than what's in the assy. Took one to Azone and matched it up to a #891 lamp, at 8 bucks each. Whoa!! So my question is what do you use for this light? Is there a cheaper bulb with this pin type base? Maybe an LED setup?

Re: Center brake light - lamps?
yeah, they sell a 12w version of the bulb that looks very similiar and is standard, not quite as bright as the original 17w pair, but I just put the 2 12w in mine and they are more than bright enough since there are 2 of them.
I don't know the part # but I took my bulb to autozone and looked for similiar and found the one with the closest wattage. I think I paid $4 for a pack of 2

Radio Shack has them at about $2 each - just take a bulb with you and match them up - much cheaper!

Now we're talking, Thanks. And those 891 bulbs get super hot too.

Re: Center brake light - lamps?
I like this post on the Radio Shack bulbs. Checked mine last night and I have 3 bulbs out. Since the 891 original bulbs are 8 Watt, and the 272-1177 Radio Shacks are 20 Watt, does this cause too much heat where it may melt the plastic? Or blow a fuse from drawing too much amperage? Or since it is Halogen, is 20Watts the "equivalent" light put out by these bulbs (kinda like the low energy bulbs in your home that take 18 watts and put out 100 "equivalent" watts of light). Thanks.

I sell them in both 10 watt and 20 watt.

Yes they get very hot, the housing on mine got so hot it partially melted and the contacts got so distorted the bulbs would fall out. I used a drummel tool to cut the plastic housing from the red lens, bought an LED circuit board about an inch wide a 12 inches long with 24 surface mounted LEDs. Epoxied it back together it looks great and doesn't get hot.

For a cheap alternative, what mine had when I got it, 194 bulbs with the wires straightened out, will fit and work decent in the housing. A 168 bulb, same type, would be a bit brighter. The LED strip would be the best solution I'd think. Where did you get this? I'm pretty good with a Dremel and glue.

Re: Center brake light - lamps?
I found it at small local electronic supply shop called Ford Electronics. It's web sight is:
http://www.fordelectronics.com
I bought mine at the store. I searched their sight but couldn't find it online.
but here is a picture you can probably pick one up at a local shop. It is 12" long but can broken into 2" segments but 12" fits perfect.

(and I am not joking, you have no idea now many Ford parts I had to install on my Cheby to make it run)
Great link, I too need some LEDs for my rear third brake light and have been looking.
Thanks!
