Wire Shielding

I have to run some new wires from my PCM to the VSS , i was told i should sheild these wires from the ignition noise . Is their some sort of tape i can buy or maybe a shrink shielding i can use . I'am gonna use the split plastic loom to route the wires no idea for the shielding .

Re: Wire Shielding

Wouldn't know why you would need to shield these. Were the old ones shielded? If not, then I wouldn't worry about it. If you feel you need to shield them, you might try Radio Shack to see if they have something that would work, or maybe Jegs. Also, something as simple as wrapping them in foil might work.???

Re: Wire Shielding

Unless you route them past the plug wires, you're not going to pick up any noise that's going to affect anything. If it was a problem, the factory would have used a twisted pair like they typically do for crank position sensors.

Re: Wire Shielding

I was gonna do my best to keep them away from the ignition , wanted alittle more insurance . The wires are fine i'am modding my PCM one of the mods is to run a new set of wires from the VSS i did not want to cut or splice my harness . I bought a new plug with TXL wire an i will add the pins for the PCM connector . The VSS input triggers with only 150 mV peak-peak that is why i was looking from some shielding being over cautious i guess .

Re: Wire Shielding

You don't have to do much, it's already miles away from the ignition. Unless you want to loop it around the distributor cap on the way from the PCM to the transmission, it's just fine.
