The motor in the rear is working..pops up when the trunk opens and pulls the trunk down to close it...but when i sit in the car and press the switch to pop it the brake light on the dash goes on...so i figured id press the switch while the e brake is up or depress the brake..nothing...any ideas

Re: hatch switch issue
My guess is the relay in the console. I have a similar problem at the moment, except my relay is shorted and keeps the release solenoid energized - it clicks about every 2 or 3 seconds and the hatch won't stay shut. I just unplugged the solenoid until I can get a new relay since the key and pull-down motor work just fine. Even with the solenoid disconnected, I get the brake indicator in the dash every so often, moving the release switch (as if to open the hatch) will make it go out.

Re: hatch switch issue
I grounded out a hot lead a few years back and mine quit working. I just ended up hard wiring mine using the existing switch. Ran a new hot lead under the carpet all the way back to the motor. The only concern for some may be that the switch is active at all times now. I haven't had any issues with it, if anything it's more convenient for me, although I don't have any kids or pets who ride in my car.
