Strange headlight behavior
Hi,
92 Camaro, I've noticed something strange that I'm not sure why it's doing this.
So I have HID bi-xenon projectors, but still had the factory hi-beams. They looked terrible with the nice projectors right next to them. Since the factory high beams are not really needed anymore, I had some of those 'fake projector' lights I was just going to put in that location for looks.
Well as soon as I unhooked the high beams, I noticed that the 'hi beam indicator' is dimly lit in the car. Then I noticed that if I turn on the headlights (lo beam), then turn them back to just the parking lights. The headlights stay on. But if I turn everything off, and then just turn on the parking lights. Only the parking lights come on (as they should).
If I put the old halogen lights back in, everything works fine.
I cant' figure out why the high beam lights needs to be actually in the circuit for the other functions to work right?
Any ideas?

Re: Strange headlight behavior
anyone have any ideas how these lights work?
Another I noticed, with the hi-beam bulbs removed. If I put my lights into highbeam, they will go into highbeam, but will not go back to low beam unless I shut them all the way off.
It has to be some sort of grounding issue that the OEM halogens provide. Just not sure how to fix it with the halogen hi's out of the circuit

Re: Strange headlight behavior
anyone?
I'm looking at the wiring diagram, and looking at the highbeam section.
Does anyone see anything here that would allow me to not need the actual halogen high-beams.
What I really wanted to do was put some LED H4s into these fake projectors, so when I did hit the high beams, they just lit up some.

Re: Strange headlight behavior
This is driving me nuts,
So now I've put the halogens back in so things would just work right until I get it figured out.
But now, for some reason the drivers side highbeam won't go off. The passenger side one works fine? What is going on!!
it didn't do any of this until I removed them to start with. I can't for the life me figure out why it would stay on, if the other one works fine?

Now let’s look at the left HI-Beam problem.
There’s no telling what wires you might have moved when putting in, then removing the wrong lights.
When you state the left HI-Beam won’t go off, do you mean even with the headlight switch in the off position, or the on position.
We will assume ‘the on position’ unless you restate.
Grab a voltmeter or a small bulb.
Power is getting to the left HI-Beam’s light green wire when it’s not supposed to.
Probe that wire, while you physically trace (you might have to remove the gluey electrical tape) to the termination point.
When you get to a branch you can disconnect the wire to see which direction the unwanted is power is coming.
Normally the light green wires that go to the left and right HI-Beams are connected.
Because of your problem that apparently is not the case.
If you made any wiring modifications restore them to stock.

Sounds good and looks better.

But for apparently on these cars, the high beams bulbs have to be in place for the whole thing (lo/high) to work properly. I was able to fix this issue by using the 'city lights' that these projector lights have and hooked them up to the high beam harness.
Once I did that everything went back to normal.
