89 firebird 350 gta no ignition
I've got no ignition. Is it the vehicle anti theft system?
I read on another thread that 10 minutes with they key on should reset that?
It had ignition before all the other issues now resolved (head gasket, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel pump power <-that main wire was probably all of that)
So now, I'm at the point of setting the timing and have no ignition.
Also, it's been since last winter when I last read the part of setting ignition, so if anyone knows the answer to both questions, thanks:
1. Where to start on identifying cause of no ignition? I do have two of the main computer chips, but left the new one in. It ran on both prior to all the work. I wonder if I could have fried one or both, but I doubt it.
2. Where's the jumper or whatever I must do to tell the computer it is time to set the timing? Is that under the dash or was there something under the hood? I think I read that it might be either and didn't find one under the hood.
Thanks to several of you for guiding me through correctly replacing all the vacuum hoses and finding where all the wires go after a year delay in reassembly after the head gasket change. It's all correct now, for sure.

Re: 89 firebird 350 gta no ignition
this is right after replacing head gaskets, distrib was out, so I know timing is way out... all I did was aim #1 on distrib toward #1 cyl... what else should I have done?
perhaps I need to start there?
perhaps I need to start there?

I couldn't figure out what the hell my marks meant after the distrib was out for like 1.5 years... I did mark something, but couldn't tell what the hell it meant...and couldn't find a corresponding mark to line it up with, so just gave it a shot... perhaps I need to start from - insert distrib correctly on the right tooth of the gear...

Re: 89 firebird 350 gta no ignition
1.5 years with no distrib because it took me a year to plan how to fix the broken head bolt without removing the engine...which I managed by making a jig to hold a drill...didn't have the luxury of one of those magnetic mounted drills...all that part is well past done, and done correctly... so I guess I'm really at the point of dropping in distributor - which I did, and it was at TDC, although I didn't do that trick of checking it with a drilled out plug with a stopper and marking it on each side, then splitting the difference to set 0 degrees... maybe I should... I figured it was right about there, and recalled the timing to be in range last time I checked it while running...so I didn't bother to verify tdc 0 degrees is as the marking says it is
and just used the mark of 0 degrees ...
then dropped in the distributor aimed at cyl 1...
after all the trouble I had, I was hoping it would just fire up and I could set the timing, and I think I had to have a jumper on under the dash to tell computer let me set timing... I'm just getting ready to give it another try since last December
Any recommendations on getting started with a fresh distrib drop into the gears and getting it going are welcomed. Hell, I probably have some jumper still there from December when I was happy there was no ignition and didn't burn it up due to a pinched o-ring on an injector.
Feel free to have a laugh at my expense. I try to not to mess it up, but I seem to stumble every step of the way despite being trained by a pro mechanic... now deceased... perhaps I didn't listen well enough all those years.

Sounds like your not getting 12v to dist. I dont believe that would be anything to do with theft or ecm. double check your wiring you may have left something undone, or popped a fuse.
