88 GTA front daytime running lights?
Hi Guys I am hoping that someone maybe able to help. My car has the digital dash and I have recently had the warning "F LAMP" appear. On removing one of the fog light assemblies I found that someone, factory?, had bored a hole in the the reflector, a small bulb inserted and soldered to the reflector and a feed cable soldered to the end of the bulb. This was identical to the other fog light. Because of water ingress the reflectors were very badly corroded so ordered some new lenses from RockAuto. The new lenses do not have the option for the daytime running lights. I hoped that wring the feed wires to ground might fool the system into believing that the circuit was complete and the warning would not be shown. How wrong I was!! Does anybody have any advice on how to stop the warning appearing as I have no intentions of drilling a large hole in my new reflectors.
Many thanks for your time.

Hey Guys, I think I;ve been a fool. The DRLs fitted are a crude amateur attempt at an update and "F LAMP" warning refers to the Fog Lamps. One of the units was so corroded that, I believe, compromised the earthing of the fog lamp bulb and hence the warning. Will attach all the new parts tomorrow morning and then test.
I am blaming old age for not recognising the obvious!!

Hi Guys, New fog lamp assemblies wired up and tested. "F LAMP" warning still appears and the fog lights will not operate. It would appear that the DRLs are integral to warning message and the operation of the fog lamps. The only option I have is to configure separate DRLs to recover normal working. Life's a bitch and the you die?! BUT not until I get all the lights working! Friends have told me that I am getting, more?, stubborn in my old age. Who would have thought they were correct?
For those that may be interested, anybody there?, I will update on progress, or death, which ever arrives first!

Just an FYI, the "F Lamp" warning isn't just the fog lights, it's all the front lights that are checked (hence the 'F'). It works on resistance checks between similar bulb circuits (head light to head light, parking to parking), and it's very sensitive so simply changing a burned out bulb with a new one can trip the system because of the difference in bulb age. So for digital dash owners we typically replace bulbs in pairs, which you're supposed to do anyhow. As for DRL, I didn't think exported cars even got DRL until 1989, maybe that was just Canada, and that was the amber indicator lights that got the DRL treatment not the fog lights (iirc).

Thanks Chet for the information, much appreciated. I will set up a pair of new lights and bulbs fed by the wires that powered the old small bulbs. Hopefully that will cure the problem. Always the optimist me!
