GTA HID Fog Lights?
Hello all, I've got a 89 GTA with what appears to be the original fog lights. I was wondering if any type of HID bulb would fit in there since the housing seems sort of small. If anyone has done this, please let me know what type of bulb you used. Any type of pictures would be great.

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
Isn't it already a HID type light? I mean...It isn't a sealed beam bulb, but is a H1 bulb that slips in from the back of the housing.

You might be right & my memory is fuzzy. I have several spares, so I haven't had to know it & buy any in quite awhile.

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
I've read that they are H3's but I've got my doubts about an HID actually fitting in there.

That's not a bad idea. I wonder if the wiring on those is any different.

If it is, you may have to repin your stock harness. I did that to my low beams on my camaro.

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
Well I did some play fitting with an old H1 HID kit I had laying around, and the bulb fit well, but in order to have all the wires accessible you'll have to drill two holes out of the back of the fog light housing to run the wires to the ballast. I'll be buying an actual H3 kit today and we'll see how this turns out. While I'm here, I might as well ask, does anyone have a bracket for the drivers side foglight? Mine is M.I.A.

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
UPDATE: Today I finally got around to tackling this task. I will have pics tomorrow. I was able to fit an H3 HID bulb in each fog light. Although, I had to dremel a small hole on the back of each foglight housing to run the HID wires and the base of the HID bulb out of. Re-sealed it all with some electrical tape and silicone. If you've got basic wiring skills this is fairly simple. I tucked the ballast away in a nice gap underneath the foglight where no water could get to it. Overall, I think this turned out very well and would be glad to help enlighten others on this task.

They're 8,000K. A little too blue for some people's tastes. I personally think they look good with my 6,000K headlights.

Wow, what a difference! Can this be used in traffic, or only on open roads where you don't meet any other cars going the opposite direction?

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
Technically any time an HID is placed in a non-projector housing, it's illegal. But I've got them aimed properly at the ground so they don't give me or other drivers problems. They really look amazing and give the car a totally different look.

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
Nice! I have just ordered some xenon for my fog ligts/daytime driving lights. What kind of headlights are you running? Do they also work properly with full lights (no cutoff)? And could you show one picture of your headlights in daylight, with the lights off? Looked awesome with that kind of light power and still have the headlights down!

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
how do you have the hids set up in the housing with the pontiac badge still on there. i wanted to do something similar where i make new headlight mouldings and hide the projector behind it so it looks stock but when i turn on the lights it will just shine light through the plastic... only problem is i want my badge to stay haha

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
I know this is an old-ish thread, but i tried this and the H3 bulbs i got were too long, by about half an inch. Did you have to get the compact bulbs or were you able to get the regular ones to fit?

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
I'm installing some 3000K yellow HIDs later this week in the housing and if I remember to take pictures I should have a slightly more detailed write up than before. Haha.

Take the shield out completely & it'll help even on stock bulbs.

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
I must not have the original foglights then, because i dont have one of those. I had a lens, the silver reflector, and the black housing that i still cant get out of the car. It's hinged on the bottom and i cant figure out how to remove it.

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
The wheels look great on the car. I am doing the install tomorrow morning. Pics will look like crap as the car is in a hundred pieces getting ready to start spraying the new paint next week but I will post them up anyway. Just curious about drilling the holes in the rear
of the housing for the install. I know I need to drill the holes for the wiring but do I also need to drill a hole for the back of the bulb so it doesn't contact the housing? I am sure I will find out tomorrow, just looking for some insight for preparation.

Anybody have any updates on this subject?
I'm trying to replace the driving light bulbs in a 91 Firebired/GTA, and install LED's? from SuperBrightLED.com, There a little longer and there's a defelector sheild in the lens that needs to be removed.

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
I don't remember if I had to or not, but I did since the lenses adhesive had failed and they just came right off when I removed them from the housings. I didn't want the little rectangle in the way of the lighting. They are very bright and kind of blind people when I have them on at night even though they are pointed downwards-ish

Re: GTA HID Fog Lights?
The little rectangle is what keeps the light pointed downward, the cut off line. No matter how far down you point the lights it will reflect it upwards and you will blind oncoming traffic. If the superbrights the OP talked about are made by Luyed, they make different versions that are shorter and should work with the reflector still in place.
I only mentioned them being pointed down because one of the other posters says that theirs don't blind people, but that is definitely false
