91 Camaro Odometer not working - what/how to check
Speedo been working fine, but the odometer doesn't work. It used to seem to work partially, but now seems to be dead. Decided to attempt a fix today. Searched through a bunch of threads on here and elsewhere. I took the gauge out, and expected to find a broken plastic gear (I actually bought one, but it's for a different style OOPS). But to my surprise the gears are all in tact. No grease or thick residue either, everything seems to spin fairly easily. The little motor seems to spin with some resistance due to the gearing that's apparently inside the motor/housing. Doesn't immediately look to be bad. It has 4 small wires going to it.
I searched google a bit to see if such a motor was available or at least some procedure to test it somehow, but haven't come up with anything yet. Anybody have a line on what to look for? Kinda hate to just send it off to a shop but maybe that's all that can be done?
Also, I have Megasquirt controlled LT1 in the car, so I think I can turn the speedo output on at a few different frequencies via the laptop and TunerStudio. I haven't actually tried that yet. If the motor doesn't spin (I'm assuming it won't) what's next? Should I attempt to find one in a yard (doubtful as old as these cars are nowadays)?
