So let make this short as possible. I recently bought a 91 trans am, and the odometer/trip meter work intermittently. One day they will work, and next day they won’t really no rhyme or reason. Speedo always works however. The other day swapped in another cluster which was known to be working the last time it was in a car... approx. 2 years ago. This one is doing exactly the same thing. As far as I can tell there is only one wire that feeds the speedo, and it’s a green wire from the vss box. Which leads me to believe both of these clusters are bad? Is this possible or is there something else I am overlooking? Tried searching, but really didn’t find any sort of answer for this question found a few threads that never really seemed to go anywhere.

 

I haven't taken apart either speedo yet, but my first guess was the gear or motor inside. I found it very odd both are doing the exact same thing though

 

It just means that your car gets to keep its miles lower for a bit longer.

 

Very true, but it sure would be nice to keep track of mileage so I can see what kind of mpgs I'm getting. Also its well deep into the 150k this ain't no cream puff

 

kinda curious about this as well. While on a road trip to Illinois mine was doing the same thing. after pressing the odometer reset a few times it started working consistent

 

Well I've been messing around with pushing the trip meter, and I seem to have the same results as punkmaster98. 3 days now and it seems to still be working great. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way. When I get some time im going to take apart the original speedometer and see if I can find an issue with the trip meter reset. I will keep this post updated with my findings.
