How much?

How much is a 1989 350TPI and a THM700-R4 worth? The motor runs and the transmission fine.

Re: How much?

What did it come from originally? If it's the stock Silverado engine then it's not a 350 TPI and is a 350 TBI. This is way different than a 350 TPI and with that many miles you might have a hard time giving it away.

Re: How much?

I don't really know. A friend of mine ask me if I knew how I could get the word out. He was going to put it in a Firebird but he didn't have the time. for a project right now. I will have to ask him. What is Wrong with a TBI?

Re: How much?

There is nothing really "wrong" with TBI itself. They are just far more plentiful and cheap and less popular than TPI. They also got placed on very low performance engines from the factory. They also take a lot more work to feed a performance engine. A factory TBI engine (from a peformance standpoint) will have useless heads and a useless cam. The most valuable part about it is probably the block, which with that many miles is probably about ready to be stripped bare and rebuilt before it gets dropped into anybody's car.

Basically when you buy a TPI engine you're getting a complete TPI unit, decent heads, a cam that even if you're not re-using has some market value.

When you buy a TBI engine like you have it's going to need new heads (because the stock heads for that engine are low RPM swirl port torque heads, made for pulling boats and staying under 4000RPM), a new cam (same for the cam about low RPM), most likely a rebuild with that many miles, and either modification to the TBI unit to feed anything over 200hp or a different induction system. I have that exact motor in my thirdgen. It's a beast down low, nothing can beat me off the line and it's very good at spinning the tires. There is no such thing as top end though.

Re: How much?

Just a note I know in the 1990 2500 the 350 is a non-roller block, so that motor if it is a TBI motor from a Silverado may not even have a roller cam
