hey guys build me a motor
hey guys,
my engine swap has just pushed me to the limit, and im gonna just start over,i want to just keep it simple, vaccum advanced carb, would like either a blower or 383,which would you guys go with?i cant afford both,i want it to be good for everyday driving, looking for 4-500 horsepower,i will have nitrous also, eventually, alright with that being said, here is what i got,
around about a 77 350 block,4 bolt main caps, its just tore apart right now, trying to keep this down in cost as much as possible, which would give better gas mileage in a 84 camaro, with a 6 speed transmission, and hopefully 4.11 posi rearend, oh yea one last thing,i would like to keep the hood close to factory,so like maybe fit all this under 2.5 cowl induction,or turbo hood or something legal, thanks.

well that really isnt all that much power out of a forced induction 350,i just figured having the 6 speed, would help keep the gas mileage a little bit better,im not seeing like 30 mpg,but somewhere close to 20,i would be happy with, i mean when it had the 305 ho motor in it,with 150000 miles,it was still running 24 mpg on the highway.pretty decent i thought.
i just would like to know which would be more practical for all around running, not to mention if i had the forced induction, and sprayed 100 shot,i wouldnt need all that much power out of her,be a little better than stock, and spray that, theres 400 right there,i want all forged internals,so it can handle,oh yea, also what comp. ratio would be the best for say, like the holley 144 powercharger supercharger?
i also have another engine i could work with, going to get it this weekend,it is a older 327,i got to check see if its the better one or not,but would it be better to build a 327 or a 350?thanks.

Take the 350 and build it. Try to get a block from a similar year as your engine receptical as it should make the swap go a little more smoothly. Since you are getting all forged internals just buy a stroker kit from eagle... Will cost basically the same as replacing your stock components with all forged but you'll have a bigger crank... You might want to opt for a cylinder head change as opposed to going with forced induction. A set of built AFR heads with a rev kit for increased reliability will run you about what a blower would cost and you will make a lot of power. Easily 400-500.

alright now that leaves me a few other questions,
why would the 350 be a better build?i thought 327 made more power from factory? i really dont know, just trying to learn some more here,
so if i stayed away from the blowerand wentsay 9.5 comp. all forged internals, and afr heads, which intake would be the best to go with, along with carb?would this setup be enough to get me into say 11's?
also,if this wouldnt,im sure with a shot of nos it would,so how much nos can i spray into her, without worry of blowing it up?
about the afr heads, which would be better?where can i find them at,and what exactly does the rev kit do?
thanks guys, and sorry im really new to building engines,so im going to have my gf's dad help me put it together, hes a ford guy but he is also old school ford, and has built a few motors himself, thanks for your patience's.

The AFRs can take you to the 11's with a good suspension and tires. If you went with forged internals and splayed caps on your block you would easily be able to run a 150 shot without too much concern . www.airflowresearch.com Have a look at the 190's and 210's. Both are nice heads. The hydrarev kit will let you rev higher more reliably basically. Most of this info is on their website.
They also have some nice intakes on their site for carb'd setups. Not sure whether it will fit under a stock hood though.

Depends on what you want to do. If I were you I'd look for someone running AFR heads with the kind of ET's and HP/TQ you'd like to see. AFR's make good power throughout the powerband though, so you can have yourself a cam with a pretty high lift (over .500) and retain decent manners. You will need a new CPU though I am pretty sure. If someone else could offer some insight into the who CPU/cam issue it would be greatly appreciated actually as I've never had to deal with this problem.
