Car: 1991 RS
Engine: 406 in progress
Transmission: th350
FI -> carb w/ motor swap
right now i have a '91 camaro RS with v6, 3.1 L with MPFI. a guy i know has a chevy 400 that hes selling for about $200. it needs a rebuild kit because the engine is getting a bit tired, so thats something i have taken into account. it comes less intake, and thus comes the bulk of my question. if i were to go with a carburetor setup and just removed the computer and such, how hard would it be to hook up the instrument panel. im not expecting to keep dummy lights or anything, but i dont know what all instruments are driven off of the computer. the reason that im going fi -> carb is just simply money, if i had more of it, i would get a fi setup ... but right now that does not appear to be an option. any input would be helpful.
as for the v6->v8 swap, im trying to do it w/o a donor car, lemmy know if i forget anything here:
motor mounts
move the brake lines
new transmission (im going with a TH-350)
probably a resized driveshaft for that
bigger radiator
optional suspension (springs) from v8
bypass electronic fuel pump and add manual
new tach
new oil guage
new throttle cable
did i miss anything ? thanks

Car: 89 base 'Bird
Engine: 507ci Caddy
Transmission: BOP TH400
The only gauge the computer would deal with would be water temp. Sometimes cars use seperate sending units, one for the gauge and another for the ECM to turn on the fans and such. As for the seperate sending units I do not know if a third gen uses them but I know alot of cars out there do. Oh yeah to use a TH350 or 400 your going to need a bracket to bolt to the tail housing for the torque arm. B&M makes it you can find it at either Jeg's or Summit

Don't forget that a fuel injected car has the fuel lines on the opposite side of the car than a carb. car. You can either run them up and over the transmission tunnel or run new lines from the back of the car. Also you can buy a crossmember for that transmission that makes it a direct bolt in. Spohn sells one and so does BMR. Check out there websites spohn.net and bmrfabrication.com.

hey acidpad
i dont know if i told you or not but you can use my intake, carb, headers, and dist, that should top off the engine. the part i dont know if you know is that you'll still need a torque converter and yoke for the th350. stock tc should be fine with the setup you'll have. you can use the rods in the 350 i have if you want when we figure out if they're any good or not. oh yeah, try to get the flywheel from Neale for the 400, the one i have fo rthe sbc350 is weighted different then a sbc400
