V6 trans on 350?
My buddy just scored a 90 Firebird with a V6 and 700-R4 for $1000. He wants to swap a 350 motor into it. My question is, I've heard rumors about the V6's getting a "baby 700-R4" that's weaker than the V8 version...and if I remember my old V6 days on these boards, the V8's won't bolt up to the V6 700's....is that right?
Basically, I'm just looking for a confirmation that he WILL or WILL NOT have to get a new tranny to go with his 350. Thanks.

I did the same thing with a 90 RS, 3.1 was locked up I gave the guy $300. It had new tires and nice wheels. All I wanted was the 700r4 to replace my 5 speed. About 2 weeks after I got the car I was looking out the window at it and then it hit me.

Not much demand around here for sixes unfortunately.... Don't know about the trannies.....maybe he'll put a few ads up and see if anyone bites. Most of the demand is actually for either 350's or 302's.... It's pretty hard to get rid of a six.. I got buddies with multiple V8's laying around in their garages even cause they can't even get rid of them.

Some people just need something that runs, put it up for sale making sure its OBO or Make Offer, someone will take it off your hands eventually.
Turbo 350s or other automatic v8 transmissions go pretty cheap around here.
I have a th200 out of my 82 Z-28 that I'd give you if you came and picked it up.

Go to your local salvage yard, thats what I did, I got an even swap for my V6-700-R4 for a V8-700-R4 and it even came out of a camaro...
The deal is that the V6 tranny is the same as the S-10 tranny and can even be modified for the 4x4 guys, and those tranny's are tons harder to get ahold of than the V-8 Versions... so my salvage guy was more than happy to do the swap cuz he can sell the V-6 version for more than he could the V-8.
