Fuel Injected V6 to Carb V8

Okay, the 5.7 V8 is fully rebuilt, the tranny is rebuilt, they're both mounted in the car, and i'm trying to hook it all up. My question is whether or not I have to do something special to hook up the fuel system to the carb. From what i've seen and heard, there is an electric fuel pump inside the tank. The plug for this is just above the differential. If I just disconnect this plug, will the fuel still pass through the pump straight to the carb without trouble such as being stopped at this electice pump?

That will work. In fact, some of the earlier thirdgens came with a mechanical pump and the in tank electric. Mine came with both being a L69 originally.

What most would probably suggest is to keep the in-tank electric and use a 3 port preasure regulator to regulate the fuel preasure to 5-7psi for carb. The three port reg will send the extra fuel back to the tank via the return line. This will keep the pump from straining too much.

The other option is to drop the tank pull the pump off and put a piece of tubing in its place to make a carb fuel pickup and just run a mechanical on the block.

So it's cool if I just disconnect the plug? The fuel will still run through it to the carb?

You're Firebird came with a high pressure pump for the original fuel injection system suitable for the power of your V6. However, at low pressure, where a carb operates, that same pump will provide more fuel than you can use. Instead of hacking up the fuel system I would use what you have. All you need is a fuel pressure regulator (from Mallory sold through Summit Racing) and an AN fuel adapter kit (sold through Summit Racing) to go from your stock flexible fuel lines in the engine bay to AN fittings and some extra line to go to your carb. The Mallory pressure regulator will have a port to return extra fuel to the tank and allow you to connect a fuel pressure gauge. It's an exotic fuel system for a non-exotic price!

Just unplugging the electric pump may or may not work. When i did the swap it didn't. I couldn't pull anything thourgh the old pump. A regulator is the way to go, dropping the tank is a pain.

Thats basically what I was saying. The easiest way would be to run a regulator with a return, but I gave the other options also.

The sock was probably clogged on your electric pump.
