What Engine?

Well I'm new to the boards, but have always used www.thirdgen.org, and I figured this be the place to ask a question I have been faced with. I'm the owner of a 1992 Camaro RS with the L03 motor, that I use as a DD. Well the motor now has over 157,000 miles on and tends to smoke on start up and idiling for long periods of time(valve stem seals).

I want to do something to under hood but since this is my DD I figured I buy a motor and build it up while I continue to drive. The thing is I am not sure what would make this best DD motor another 305 (possible TPI), or a 350 TPI? What kind of work would I be looking into? Would I have to reinforce to chassie to prevent twisting of the body and frame?

Please let me know, Thank you for your time.

plenty of info on this. This is probably on of the most asked questions here...

To be honest, if it's your daily driver, a TPI swap is going to take some time. You either need to install a harness from a donor TPI Car, or buy an aftermarket harness that converts your stock harness for TPI ( usually big $$ ).

Why not get your feet wet by changing the valve stem seals? Do a searh on the boards, plenty of walkthroughs on the subject as well I'm sure.

The parts are CHEAP, and it isn't that hard of a task ( if you take your time and pay attention to detaill ).

ok so by DD are you looking for good driveability and manners? easy to repair? good mileage.

I just finished swapping an LT1 into my DD, but my definition of a DD might be different then yours.

I drive my car every day but don't care if I get 14 MPG as it's so short to and from work.

I also don't mind a lumpy cam (grant the current buick bump stick is far from that)

I did see one board member forgot his name.

But took basically your car, and slide a 350HO long block under the TBI and tossed a 454 TBI onto it. would make good power and keep the driving manners nice, and still give you decent mileage. also it would rev over 5000K if that matters to you.

Well the Miles Per Gallon do matter to me since I'm driving a roughtly total of 56 miles a day. That was my reasoning for thinking of TPI, because it is said that TPI gets better economy than TBI. I was thinking if i went 350 I use one from a Third Gen. The thought of keeping the 305 and doing small bolt ons to it had crossed my mine. Just one of those preference things I guess. I just mostly worried about the body and frame if I did this.

Thanks for the help though.
