HELP!!!

I'm wasn't real sure where to post this, since it will be a engine swap I posted it here.

Last summer I picked up a low milage short block, got it home, sitting on a engine stand pushed back of unheated garage, never got it installed. I wiped oil all over cylinder walls and put a large thick plastic garbage bag over it, its slightly open in back where its attached to engine stand so not totally air tight.
Talking to a buddy, he told me that i should use a bed sheet so mosture will not build up..makes sense. Today I removed bag and no sign of any surface rust, after 7 months.

My thought is the plastic bag will keep mosture out. I'm conserned as it starts to warm up there could be condensation forming on block. Hopefully i'll get it installed this spring.

My question is whats the best way to keep rust off cylinder walls?

Thanks,

Mark
