Got one. Came out of an Impala. More likely to be out of a full-size than a Chevelle, El Camino, or Camaro. It'll probably have "Pass Hi Perf" cast into it in a couple of places. Doesn't mean much, but kinda cool.

Just the block, or shortblock?

Conventional wisdom says pass and go for a 454. Nice thing about the '66 2-bolt 396 is it is the same casting as the '66 2-bolt 427, if you know what I mean.

Just a block. That means it will need crank and rods. Plus rebuild.

If you verified no cracks, and sufficient wall thickness (should be okay), bore it out to 4.250", put in a 4.00" crank (externally balanced), you'd have a 454 (use 4.250" stock bore 454 pistons). Aftermarket BBC 454 cranks & rods are coming down in price.

Whether that would be "can't pass" vs. finding a rebuildable 454 shortblock, depends.
