Engine Mounts (5L-V8)

ok i have had a look but can't see if anyone has asked this b4 but i want to change these damn engine mounts before i put my car back on the road next week.
I have one completely F***ed engine mount and i got new ones to swap in but looking at it IT looks like the nuts on the mounts are not fixed cos i was turning a bolt for ages with no sucsess, My question is are the bolts that hold the mounts to the cars cross member screwed into fixed nuts (welded to frame) or loose ones?

Ah, the curse of the crossmember nuts!

No, they are not fixed. They're easy enough to get to when the A-arm is off, but a bear if not. Hope you have socket u-joint, extensions, and a lot of patience - or very small hands!

Re: Engine Mounts (5L-V8)

I took them off while the a-arms were still on the car. It is a huge PITA, but with a little bit of patience and a extra set of hands it can be done. If you look at the underside of your k-member, there is a round access hole maybe 1.5 inch in diameter towards the rear of the car. (somewhat in line with the top two engine mount bolts) a standard wrench is JUST long enough to grab ahold of the nuts to hold them to get them off. To Get them back on, use a little glue/silicon to hold the washer to the nut, and the nut to the wrench, and have a buddy feed the bolt in from the top. A little patience and you are good to go. Not as bad as it may seem. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The upper bolts are really the only hard ones to get to, the lower ones you can get to pretty easily.

Good luck...
