Question about 350 swap
Hey guys,
As you know i'm doing an 84 jasper reman engine into an original 3.1l car. I have the orginial v belts from the 84 but bought a serp set up for a v8. My question is can i use the orignal sbc long style water pump with the belt set up. Do i need a new pulley to run the serp or just a new water pump and if i need a new water pump any suggestions? I also may buy some underdrvie pulleys for an alternator and crankshaft with belt? Good idea yes...no? Any feedback would be awesome,as always.
THANKS!

If you are running the serpentine system, you need a reverse rotation water pump and the pulley that goes with it. The pulley runs on the back side of the belt, so it doesn't have any grooves.
Underdrive is only a good idea for a set-up that spends a good bit of time at high RPMs. Not always a good idea for a regularly street-driven car.

Re: Question about 350 swap
Will a water pump off of an 88 v8 work on an 84 chevy 350 engine so long as it's reverse rotation. For instance, can i go to a parts store say I have an 88 iroc camaro and just get the water pump install it on my block and live happily ever after?
also as always thanks 57kid... TGO rules

Re: Question about 350 swap
I like whichever the particular vehicle in question came with originally. Not really worth the trouble to change it.

Re: Question about 350 swap
Well the engine was orginially v belt, but the camaro was a serp set up and getting a v6 to v8 engine swap out of an earlier 350. I bought pretty much everything to complete the swap from v belt to serp just trying to work out the fine details
Also will a water pump from a f/i car work with that of a carb?

The water pumps are the same regardless of what induction system was used.

Alright, i think i'm going to just stick with the v belts...
That wouldn't mess up any of my power acc. would it?
Thanks

Nope.
If I had a V8 serp set-up, I'd be inclined to use it. If the V6 was serp and V8 V-belt, I'd definitely go V-belt.
