trying to put 454 in 79 firebird(what am I doing)
I have a 454in my shop. I have a very nice 1979 firebird in the back yard. The firebird has a stock 301, is there any complications putting the 454 in the firebird? what will I have to change?

What do we know, this is a third gen site.
Check nastyz28.com, they're good over there.
The 301 is a pontiac engine though, so you'd need a chevy tranny to mate up to the 454. Same goes with motor mounts IIRC, and of course you'd need all chevy BBC accessories, etc.
Your best bet is to put the 454 in your 86Z.

At one time I had a 79 bird with a 301. Wanted to go to a 350 chevy but it would've been way to difficult. Got a 350 pontiac and put that in instead. Those 301s don't match up to anything.

It's not that bad. Even though I'm a third genner now, I had a '77 Camaro that I put a big block in. You will need a Chevy transmission to replace the BOP transmission (preferably a th350 and you can use the same drive shaft), Chevy motor mounts (any 2nd generation Camaro with a v8 will do), and headers for a '72 big block camaro (Cyclone makes some for about $150.00). You may have to replace the positive battery cable since the Pontiac starter is on the driver's side. That should make bolt in, then it's all Chevy from there.
