Need advice on 350
Im finally deciding to ditch the 305 in my 91 RS and go with a 350. Where is the best place to get a new 350 block. Here is my whole thought process here.. I want to learn how to build a motor, already have the "how to build a SBC" books, and been reading alot about it. I did one in my automotive class a few years back, but now i want to do one for myself. So i want to build a SBC as close to the L98 350 which came in our cars. Doing so, i will be able to to use a stock ECM, the TPI setup, the whole 9 yards. At the same time, it should pass emissions, considering, well, its all stock. (except for headers)If i am wrong about this, hopefully someone will chime in. I figure once the motor is up and running, then i can make minor computer adjustments and motor adjustments and add performance parts down the road (limited budget) It will be way to much for me to try to add performance cams, heads, etc AND try to figure out how to tune it, make it run right, and pass smog lol. Ive seen a few short blocks on JEGS for about 797. Is this a good base to start with? I want new that way i dont have to worry bout bringing it to the machine shop to get all the work done, cost me an arm and a leg (which i have priced out before) and i can just go out in my garage between my two jobs and mess around with it. Is there anywhere else i can get a block or short block, or a replacement L98 for a decent price?? Any help and tips would be necessary.

Summit and Jegs both have good cheap GMPP blocks, but you still have to check clearances even on a new one. Sometimes they may be a little off.
