Iroc 305 engine change, need some info
hi ive got a 86 iroc i bought it with a seized engine, its a 305 ive bought another 305 engine but its a 88 i did not realise they were slightly different, the cars tpi, can i grind the injection maniold bolt holes to make fit the newer engine, also is there anything else i should know thats going to be different? as im learning about it as i go along, i was told the engine ive bought was running tpi but if it had a carb would it still run tpi?

You pretty much summed it up. '86 was the last year (other than aluminum headed Corvettes) that had all the intake manifold bolts at the same angle. You could get an '87-later TPI base, and it would then all bolt up. Otherwise, like you said, elongate the center two manifold bolt holes on each side until the bolts fit.
No problem putting the TPI back on the '88 engine. As long as the cam hasn't been changed.

ideal thanks for that, not sure about the cam im in the uk so parts are hard to find, pretty much impossible to find a tpi manifold for the new engine so ill have a go at grinding the old holes, is there anything else different?
i was told the new engine ran tpi but its just the guys word for it.

Go to a yunk yard and find what you need, or you can cough up a little bit more and buy a new manifold.

not got a pic of it, it looks like i can get away with using it, just wondering i there's any thingelse different

The valve covers are different, but that won't affect this operation. The '88 also has roller lifters, but again, won't affect anything you're doing.
