I need more Car knowledge.... Help?

Ok, so I have a stupid question here and I cannot seem to get a straight answer from people. So my engine is dying and I am looking for a new one. I think I found one , but It has a manual tranny connected to it and I would like to keep my auto tranny. Can I hook up the new engine to the auto tranny even thought it is hooked up to the manual. Do they have different mounts or something or are they the same?

Everything should be the same. You will use the flexplate from your old motor on the replacement in stead of the manual flywheel. That should be about it.

Yes/No. You need to make sure you get the right one. pre 86 V6's use an externally balanced crank. The flexplate or flywheel have an extra weight on them to balance the system. 86+ V6's use an internally balanced crank. This means the flywheel or flexplate do not have a weight. Usually the best thing to do to avoid problems is to keep the flywheel/flexplate with the engine they came with. Since your putting a manual engine to an automatic you'll be swapping this out and you might have a problem. Just make sure you get an engine from 87+ (an extra year to be safe) and you will be fine.

Other than that all of the RWD chevy 60* V6's are the same. They do have some larger displacements that will make the swap more worth while though. 2.8/3.1/3.4 all have the same externals and will bolt right up. I'd recommend going larger than your 2.8 if you want some extra zip.
