Envoy 42.L Inline 6 swap????
So i want to do something reallly unique. Not that i can afford to. But maybe this will inspire ideas and a new awesome porject will be born.
I want to put a 4.2L Envoy/Trailblazer 270hp Inline 6 into my camaro. I want to turbo it and build it to handle the turbo.
Since Envoys also came with the LS6s or LS2s or whatever doesn't that mean that all i would need is the LSX swap kit for motor mounts and such???
I knowww theres TONS of other stuff to think about, but this is just an idea. And i found a website that sells used engines. Its a 1399 dollar motor. Do a full stand alone fuel managment system... another 2000 dollars, and probably a 60 trim t3/t4 turbo around 15 psi.
Im thinking awesome supra sportscar style Iroc-Z!!!
Let me know what you think. DONT FLIP OUT AT ME. But i would like your input. I love unique projects and happen to be a fan of inline 6 turbo motors.

What's the Profile on the intake? Would it even come close to fitting under a 3rd gen hood? I would expect a straight 6 to big longer & be too tall, even with a tall scoop, especially at the front.

hmm. sounds kewl for sure. kinda import, but not since its from an envoy. unfortunately its not as simple as getting an LS transplant kit. the 6 cylinders use different mounts than the v8s, just like our beloved third gens and they v6/v8 mount differences.
the other problem i see, is fitment. i know the engine is narrower by a good amount, but being so long, it might be a bit tight, even in a third gen with the rather copious amount of room under there.
measure for sure, with all accessories you plan to have and find out what tranny you can use. im sure you can adapt something to it. a 6 speed would be sick. also, to turbo it, you might not have to do a massive amount of tinkering. a forged bottom end for sure, some head and valve train work, and then get the ecu tuned for a turbo. yea you can do standalone fuel management, but really you dont need that with a car that will run 6-10 psi on a normal basis. its nice for sure, but not necessary. also, cooling is a consideration. we all know our third gens suck at cooling, and with the already lengthy 6 cylinder, i kinda think that a bigger radiator might be a pretty tight fit.
but anyhow, if you build it, i will applaud you greatly, cuz after turboing that motor, id expect to see about 430-450 hp and bout 360 tq on that motor, probably more. that would put most swaps to shame, not only in power but in uniqueness as well. DO IT!! haha

I'd say give it a shot, but I just about guarantee the length of the engine will be a problem... its probably at least 8" longer than a SBC, if not more. Would be an interesting project though... aren't they aluminum blocks too?
