I am rebuilding my 89 305 to replace the 305 thats currently in my 87.
I will be removing all the computer jazz and whatnot and I was told to do so all I need is a Non CC Distributer and Carb. Can I use pretty much any GM V8 distributer or what would work?

And intake manifold. And TV cable corrector bracket (if automatic). And fuel pressure regulator. And fuel adapter fittings. And means to lock up the torque converter clutch (if automatic).
There's a tech article on it linked from the thirdgen.org homepage.
You don't need to get an intake manifold, fuel pressure regulator, or any fittings to adapt the fuel lines, as long as you use a q-jet, and a q-jet intake, like the one on your '87.
Yes, most Chevy v8 non CC distributors will work, but it will keep the swap simple if you keep HEI.

Um, next question, haha. HEI is stock on 87 305 z28?
And its a t-5 so no converter stuff needs to be done however I was planning on changing the intake and carb.
Yes, but it is CC HEI. You need to change the dizzy when you go from CC to non CC. Look for one that looks externally very similar to yours, but the one you need to get will have a vacuum can on the outside. If your on a tight budget, try a JY or craigslist. Summit Racing has very good prices on HEI distributors, a new one from them costs about the same as refreshing an old one: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-850001R/
If you don't keep the CC carb (and I'd recommend keeping it), then the only carb you should consider, and that only because you have a 5-speed, is a Holley double pumper. Anything else, keep the q-jet.
And, it won't be emissions-legal with anything but the stock q-jet system.
what makes them better? The whole reason I am doing the swap is because I dont want to change the valve seals, haha. O and only maybe 40 thousand miles on the engine that I am going to put in.

Would like a 600 cfm be good? And do you know if they make it with an electric choke or just the upgrade kit to make it electric?
