383 into a 92 Camaro
I am currently building a 383 for my 92 tbi Camaro, the dyno figures on an identical engine are as follows 450 horse and 470 ft/lbs. torque. I am rebuilding my 4L60 to hold up to this beast, but will my rearend hold up during everday use until I can order my 12 bolt? Besides the fuel pump and regulator, what do I need to do to perform this swap? If I disconnect the ECM what will stop working, I want the wirng harness and computer for the 51 GMC pickup I am also building. I imagine subframe connectors are a definite must have. Wiring the fan and ignition system should be little trouble, but what about the passkey? Let me know what I am forgetting if anything, please.

Yea, I realize that, but I'm not to worried about that yet. As long as it will hold together for a few months. Anybody on a budget will understand you can only do so much at one time. Basically, I just want to know all of the problems I might run into on the engine swap. I appreciate your response as it settles my mind on the rearend issue. Thanks!!!!!

If you search the archives for my name you will eventually run into my ravings about my own engine swap. I had numerous annoyances that noone could have foreseen, as I am sure you will as well. Look for the particularly funny "Lesson in fire safety" post. As for the rear end, It will hold up just fine as long as you stay on street tires and lay off the gas pedal. I haven't done the latter and it mine is still fine though. Go to slicks and put the full brunt force of the motor to the rearend and it will move while your car stays still if you get my meaning. As for disconnecting the ECM, if you do that then the car won't run. For the time being I am still running with my stock(305)chip and the only prob I have had is running very rich. The engine still won't get traction all the way through 2nd gear but is still nowhere near its potential. Running with the stock ecm will be ok for a bit. You need to change the ESC and the knock sensor to ones for a 350.

I changed my 86 to carb also. I solved the fan issue by using an independant relay that is self contained. It has it's own temp sensor and harness that is very simple to install. I paid $36 for mine at Schucks. Only took about 20 min to put it in and wire up.
