350 swap shoots off oil filter

I just swapped in a 350 into my 84 camaro no exhaust yet open headers but just got it running and the oil filter shot off and the oil spilt out. I was told to clean any rust off of the surface to get a tight seal so I did and the same thing happened again. My oil pressure in the car is maxed out over 60 looks to be where 70 should be. I am running 10-30 oil now gona change it up to 5w-30 see it it helps but is this a common problem with the oil filter?

No, it is not a common problem. Check the mechanicals first, the filter mount stud for good threads, the filter for defects.

I assume your oil pressure gauge doesn't go any higher, so if it's maxed out, your oil pump relief valve may be stuck.

Re: 350 swap shoots off oil filter

Last time I heard of this happening, turned out to have a spun cam bearing. How that happens I have no idea.

Re: 350 swap shoots off oil filter

Well problem has been solved the engine was originally out of a 92 truck and im unsure of the details but there is some sort of an adaptor where the filter screwed into well come to find out the person who had it before cracked it right in half when tightening the two bolts (or someone had pressure on the filter when the engine was sitting). Heres a picture thanks for the input everyone

That's quicker, easier, and cheaper than either a stuck oil pump relief valve or spun cam bearing.
