a 327 or 350?

what motor is this? I just bought an 89 firebird formula and it has an engine swap. The guy I got it from told me it was a rebuilt crate motor 350 out of a 66 nova. I did some research after the fact and there wasnt a nova in 66 with a 350. I tried to look for an engine code but i think it is behind the alternator and dont want to take it off yet. is there any sure tell signs I could look for?

You'll have to get the block casting numbers. All SBC look identical from the outside, no visible difference in blocks from a 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350.

If its a true 66 nova motor its prolly a 283 or a 327
But most likely it was someone saying that to make a sale...
also behind the driver side head on block(were belhousing bolts) there will be a id number like this 3970010 This is the most common 350...
I cant tell from picture but get me a close up of the block on the front with a little of valve covers in it and the top of water pump.(camera pointing straight down...
I will help ya as much as I can(On right front of motor by head theres a ID pad there that should have numbers also that will help us determine the car its from)
I got all the old GM Code books(my uncle retired from gm)

There is a code on the block pad in front of the passenger side head. It may yield usable information. But, the block casting number would be good.
It would also be good to have the head casting number. It is under the valve cover.
Whatever the engine is, it has the look of a "project".
