engine/transmission compatibility

ok, this might sound complicated but ill explain the best i can.

my camaro is a 305 auto, and i have been wanting to swap in a 5-speed, so i have been looking for a donner car.

a friend of mine knows ive been looking and his dad has a scraping business, so he called me up and said he has an early 80's camaro there to be scrapped and wondered if i wanted it.

turns out the car is a base coupe with a straight 4 and came factory with a 4-speed, but the guy they got it from said he swapped in a 5-speed

my question is, does anyone know what the bolt patern for the inline 4 is?

I am trying to figure out if the guy swapped in a 5-speed from a v6 or a v8, because if it is a 5-speed from a v8 i want it.

another question i might as well ask here. is all the clutch hardware the same regardless of engine and tranny? slave cylinder, linkage, ect...

IIRC, the Iron Duke is V8 pattern.

Which V8 pattern though? The 'Iron Duke' was based on a Pontiac V8, not a Chevy V8 - and they both used different bellhousing bolt patterns.

Re: engine/transmission compatibility

even if i had to change the bell housing i can deal with that, i was more concerned about the tolerances of the transmission, thanks guys, this is why i ask the pros
