my engine swap 388
thought id make a thread about my new engine. i got this motor and was told it was some awesome bord and stroked 350 that was a 392 but after taking it to the engine shop to get a cam installed, screw in rocker studs, and valve guides i found out it was only bord 60 over. so i got a stroker kit and ended up changing the motor into a 388. thats how this started
it has 2.02 valves, roller rockers, chrome oly push rods, stainless valves, polished and ported heads, and everything else new from oil pump to valve springs.
first pic is when i got it. second is in the engine shop, sorry dont have one yet of it home from the shop
Attachment 211629
Attachment 211630
Got an edelbrock Pro Flow XT Fuel injection system fro the motor. stand alone FI kit with wireing and computer... lost of money i didnt like spending tho.
i bought 3.73 auburn rear with 2in arp studs for $350. the rear end was just rebuilt with about 300 miles on it.
pic of it installed
Attachment 211631
also put new lower controll arms, pan hard bar, shocks, springs, and sway bar bushings.
undercoated and painted everything up nice under the rear.

Re: my engine swap 388
for some reason this didnt work in the first post. here is the motor
and here is the rear. i think the other pics worked
i got my old 305 out and starting cleaning the engin bay. took the old motor mounts out to get new ones. that was a pain to get the motor mounts out... cant get to the nuts on the back of them. i wire wheeled the k member and got that painted black, next get the bay ready for paint. im painted the car white diamond peal so that is what im painting the engine bay. it the cadillac pearl white you see around. hope i can afford that paint after this motor build haha.
ill get pics of where i am at when i get a chance

Re: my engine swap 388
I also took my old wire harness out and separated the old TBI harness from what i still need. i removed the charcoal canister and cruise controll.
i installed the new fuel pump that came with the pro flow and the fuel lines ran up front
more on the motor.
when the engin shop was looking at that motor he found they had different size valves in it also.
luckley the guy who sold it to me included all new pullies, alternator, starter, MSD ingnition system, and MSD spark plug wires so i got ripped off but not that bad. everying for $1000. the reason i changed the cam is for the FI system. they call for a certian on for tunning reasons, if it is too big then its harder to tune so i called their tech and thats what they recomended. its an edelbrock Hydraulic Flat Tappet, Duration 308/318, Lift .488/.510
