I was thinking the same thing for your radiator hoses, maybe that's all you can do. Will work for now and later on if you find something better switch them out. You are getting close.

Re: 6.2 is in my '84 T/A
Thank you. I think I'll need a custom radiator if I'm going to drive this next summer. These 6.2s are in-direct injected, which requires a lot of radiator. A custom Be-Cool will be pricey, so I gotta figure how long it'd take for the fuel savings to pay for it. And the 6.2 isn't the final engine. I plan on a 454 next, and unless I get lucky, the final engine will be an '84 Olds 4.3L diesel V6. If I get lucky, I'll get a used Jaguar twin-turbo-diesel V6, like Jeremy Clarkson got 49.1 MPG from. That would be worthy of another custom radiator.

You could also get the radiator that comes with those motors and make it fit.

What, make the 6.2 radiator fit? It's 41" wide! http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=272091

Just throwing some ideas out there, we use to have a radiator shop here and he would have made it fit by cutting the core down and putting the tank back on. He might also have re-cored it with a shorter core, I believe that is a lost art. You keep us updated.

I hope I didn't seem cranky, because I do appreciate your positive interaction. My new rear springs just arrived, but I should have those done by Thursday.

Yes sir the rear springs aren't to bad, I been working on my front A arm bushings and I have the 1400lb springs in there. I don't care what anyone says about this job but I have been a little nervous after compressing those babies.

fantastic engines. i also like the 4bt's. main problem with them is cost. everyone knows how good they are, so the price demanded is pretty high.
not as high as a duramax, though. lol the 6.2 the op is working with would be about the cheapest diesel available, i would imagine. you could stockpile 2 or 3 of them for next to nothing and run off the spare parts for a long time.
for a daily driven diesel, the vw diesels are very hard to beat. i was looking for one for my wife, but felt the prices were too high on them and i was worried about complexity. supposedly they are hard to work on if you dont have the diagnostic equipment. so i got her a civic hybrid. its done pretty good so far, knock on wood. averages 39-42 through the week, and got 51 on a trip we took earlier this year.

Re: 6.2 is in my '84 T/A
I have a 6bt 12v truck. Its been good so far.
I was thinking about picking up a new TDI. Being a professional VW mechanic they dont scare me. Supposedly theyve been excellent so far in terms of reliability.

Re: 6.2 is in my '84 T/A
Ok first off you will not be getting stellar milage peak hp 143 and peak tq 257 thats worse than the 305 TBIs and I drove from CT to FL on two tanks in my camaro with the 305 TBI thats 1300 miles thats 43 miles per gallon all highway night driving.
Now a duramax is 300 hp and 520 ft lb tq at 1800 rpm where the 6.2 for peak is 2000 rpm
More proof google An 800HP, 35MPG, Duramax-Powered Mustang If you can achieve that with your 6.2 then have fun or if you can run 9.8 1/4 mile back to back and get 38MPG in between tracks. You wont the 6.2 is a cheap old motor built off of a Gas motor platform it is far easier to put in and yeah a whole lot cheaper but then again could have gone with a 305 and got the same results you are putting a motor that puts out less HP and TQ than a RS and you think you will get better gas milage. I still think what you are doing is cool and I aplaude trying but if you are trying to justify that the 6.2 will out perform the duramax you are mistaken that would be like saying a TPI will out perform a LS1
I feel bad because you will not be as happy as you want to be when your swap is done and I also feel you are doing it for the wrong reasons JUST to say you have a diesel I will give you credit enough to know that just because its diesel its going to be better
and if you put a 4CYL in a camaro turbo supercharged or both (yes it was done in a Lancia Integrale) that does not mean it will get better milage It comes down to gearing weight tq how much load that engine will have to maintain 65 mph that 4cyl and your 6.2 will be at a 50 to 75% load a duramax may push 20 to 40 % load I have had 3 trucks in the past 4 years first was a 2005 Silverado with a 5.3 I got best 17.5 mpg then I got a 2008 Silverado 1500HD with a 6.0 best I got with it was 21 now I have a 2012 Ford F350 6.7 diesel and I see 20 around town and got 26 highway
I am getting caught up and will get some time to get back to work on my car and I will gladly take a bet with you on which will be
1 Faster
2 Best MPG
3 Look better
4 Cleaner fab
I dont know what I did to creat this grudge you carry and I left it alone as long as I could feel free to ask the mods to take this down too

Re: 6.2 is in my '84 T/A
and as for cost
Donor truck- $2500
Sold trans seats tank front end wheels step bars and scraped the rest $2700
traded intercooler for K member
had DOM tubing left over from other jobs rod ends $90
now if you want to start counting power bill for my welder or filling the bottles for it or OXygen and acetalene for cutting up the old truck to scrap you can probably add another $300
to finish it will be some more fab I have friends with CNC waterjets that will cut what I need and parts to buy
EFI live 900
lift pump 600
coilovers 400
misc parts lets say 500
so Ill be roughly around 3k out of pocket and have around 600 hp and 1300 ft lb of tq if you can do that for less than 3k let me know how you did it but if you are smart and paitient the deals come around all the time
