350 swap confusion and frustration
Ok so i have 86 z28 with the factory five speed and a 305. I bought a bult 350 from a guy that used it in his 81z. It is a two piece main crank older engine. I cant seem to get any info on what exactly i need to do to get the factory tranny and the oldee engine married. The 350 flywheel doesnt fit inside the .bell. so can i put a different bell housing on and have it clear the wall? Is there anyway to get a smaller flywheel for the three fifty? If so how would the starter work? Do i need a compleatly new tranny? Any help out there?

If it is a 2 piece rear main sounds like you need the correct bell housing or new flywheel from a 85. I think there is a 10 , 10.5 and 11, 14 flywheels . measure you old one form the 305 and goto rock auto.com and look one up for a 85 camaro. You also need to use the right disc and pressure plate for that flywheel. I think the 14 is the 168.

there are 2 starter used on chevys blocks depending how the block is drilled and what flywheel you are using 153 or 168.

The larger flywheel hits the bell housing on the bottom. So is there a bell housing for that tranny that will fit inside the firewall that will also clear the flywheel?

So by using the 305 starter i can use a 153 tooth flywheel. So i just need a new flywheel and preasure plate. Because the small preasure plate doesnt bolt to the other flywheel

Re: 350 swap confusion and frustration
not sure about your bell housing options I assume your using a t5. I would get a smaller flywheel. wish I had more experience to answer you 100%. but I do know 85 was a 2 piece rear main seal so if you measure the diameter of the flywheel that should work. I want to say it was 10.5 and 153.
the 153 starter holes are straight across from each other and the 168 are staggered.

I think you need a acdelco 388017 ( g.m 88990367) or equivalent. I took that part number and went to acdelco.com and it shows to be used on 101 different chevy applications from 1966-1985. It says to work with the 10 and 10.4 clutch but does not give the external diameter but I think its 12 3/4 153 teeth compared to the 168 14 inch flywheel. as long as you don't get one for a 400 sbc should fit the bill.

new if you look on rockauto or ebay there $85-120 range. Try to get it local so if there is a issue you can return it.
