a little help planning this engine swap
I'm trying to plan out my replacement engine for my 1991 305 Z28 (G92 code car). I'm not looking to break the bank here so stay with me on that. I'd like to stay with the 91's TPI and T5 w/c 5 spd. I'd like a few more horses than the 305 but I'm not looking to rip up the pavement or scramble a T5.
I want to upgrade to a 350. I have a line on a short block L98 from an 89 vette. So I think I'd like to start there and just plan on a stock refresh/rebuild on that block. I'm reading that Vortec heads are a great upgrade too, but I'm not sure which ones I should be looking for and what if any pitfalls there are in mating them with a Gen1 block. (other than needing an aftermarket intake to keep the TPI). So I guess in short I'd like to know the following:
-what needs done with the TPI? Injectors, prom tune, fuel pump, regulator???
-which vortec heads should I be looking for? Casting number, chamber size etc.
-what cam, lifters, pushrods should I be using? (help me choose something for a nice driving street car with a little bit of punch)
-will my 305 accessory brackets bolt up?
-any thing else I should be planning for?

Vortec heads on a SBC are a tried and true budget build, you wont go wrong
Injectors, tune, lower intake
Stock pump is the same 305 to 350, upgrade to a 255 if you want. 20y/o pump is beyond due. Regulator can stay if it works
Any heads from a L31 350. Skip the 305 heads
Pick your own cam. Keep in mind stock vortec heads cant support much lift, so skip the thumpers. A stock LT1 cam or mild version would be a great for a mild build
Any SBC accessory bracket will bolt up the same
Anything else? Sure, why not update the PCM control to a modern system like the LSx and skip chips and what-not

Re: a little help planning this engine swap
Well the pump is not original. So I'd only change/upgrade that upon necessity. I see a set of the 96 Vortec heads for sale here locally with the 64cc chambers from a 350. I guess those fit the bill right? Also what lb. injectors should I be looking at? And I'm not sure what is involved in updating the PCM to a LSx setup. I'm guessing that would require a bit of fiddling with wiring harnesses and I'm not sure I want to get into that for this project.

Use any 22,24 or similar injector. Stock ls1 injectors are common, cheap and flow plenty
I build conversion harnesses from scratch, so hit me up if you are interested in the benefits of OBDII control

Re: a little help planning this engine swap
Vortec heads don't fit the TPI intake manifold. Just build your 305. After swapping to a 350, I honestly wish I had just done heads and cam on the LB9 I had instead.

I realize that the stock intake wont bolt up but Scoggen Dickey and Edelbrock both make an intake for this purpose.

Re: a little help planning this engine swap
After seeing what the machine shop charges to go through a G82, I'm starting to think maybe I should just start with a ZZ short block and build from there with the vortec heads Scoggen Dickey intake. Then down the road I can switch to a miniram or something that flows better than the stock TPI.
