Re: BBC swap in mind Have???

Oil pan should still fit unless it's some weird design.

Headers, yes and they're not cheap
Gaskets, plugs, wires, sure, why not.

Valves? A lot more to it than just that. Valve grind, maybe seats and guides. Depends what kind of condition the heads are in. Probably going to need new valve springs also. A camshaft in a mud truck will probably suck on the street so a new cam and lifters. Valve springs need to match the cam grind. New timing chain set.

A 402 is a factory bored out 396 and this one has been bored an additional 0.030" over. Depending on the condition of the cylinders, could it take another overbore? New pistons, rings, bearings.

Add in all the machine work for a proper rebuild and for around $5000 worth of parts and labor you could have an engine ready to drop in. When you're done, you still only have a 402ish engine. The bigger heads of the BBC will let it breath a lot better than a SBC but you could get more bang for the buck with a good SBC.

Will it fit under the hood? Not with a tall aftermarket intake manifold. A cowl hood and drop base air cleaner are required. A factory cast iron intake is heavy and restrictive so you don't really want to use that.

Rough estimate what it would cost to rebuild the engine then at least double that cost before you can turn the key to start it. Although it can be done cheaply, if it's not done properly, you're wasting your money.

Re: BBC swap in mind Have???

what are you using for the trans, also sub-frame connector are requirement not an option.
what oil pan is on the motor now does it have a large sump( most truck oilpans do) http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/perform...CATID=577.html

here is a link that shows a 5 quart oil pan for gen IV big blocks. its the same one that was on chevelle's and will work in 3rd gen camaro. there is a magazine write up on putting a big block in a 3rd gen that has a parts list to put a big block in a 3rd camaro the right up was from the late 80's early 90's google it its got a lot of good info
if your not putting in a 427 or larger i would would stick with a small block. a 383 would do alot better than 402.
theres alot good 454's out there for reasonable prices i have even seen gen 5's for 500 bucks. if your going to have to rebuild it anyway and your deadset on a BBC then find a larger motor. if your motor is already bored .060 over as it sits. .030 from the factory and then .030 again. if you need to bore again the walls are going to be thin and you might have cooling issue in the camaro thats already going tobe warm from going in to the car just my 2 cents.
heck find a 400 small and stroke it. there are stroker cranks from scat for 200-300 all day long . 427 smallblock sounds real nice and there is no fab work.

Re: BBC swap in mind Have???

that 402 is similar to what im putting in my 92 and for a good street car it will be fine im worried mine will start breaking stuff if i get to ruff with it but go ahead and invest in tubular suspension up front it will make things much easier when going together im running a pa racing k member and a 70 camaro oil pan if that helps and no it wont fit under a stock hood you'll need at least a 4 in cowl hood

.
There is no chance a 383 small block is going to compete with a 402 BBC. if you put the same performance parts in both motors
