best way to electrically power my car, without an engine?

Let me know if this is in the wrong spot.

So I have an 85 z28. Power window gave me issues, so i left it down. I also have pulled the engine.

Now I wish to roll the car out of the garage, wash it, under hood work(sanding, paint), etc...

Any easy ways to power the before I pull the door panel? can I just try hooking up the power side and somehow the ground battery cable as well? Will that work?

Unhook any "hot" wires left hanging from the engine pull and put a battery in it. Ground it and it should be fine. Or you can hook a power source directly to the wires for the window motor.

You'll have to bolt the main harness feed wires to the battery pos. cable where you removed the starter......

It's pretty simple. Hook (+) power to the two large red wires that went to the starter solenoid terminal where the battery cable connects (you don't need to involve the battery cable). Hook the (-) power to chassis ground.

You really only need to power one of those two large red wires, but it has to be the right one. Powering them both will get the job done, and won't hurt anything. Just don't let them touch ground.

You can probably use a battery charger (I used a battery charger to cycle an electric window motor when I was getting ready to install it). Or, you can use a charged battery. Whichever is easier.

Or a set of jumper cables and another car, doing exactly what five7 said. Clip the black to the chassis and the red to the power wires that came off the big post of the starter.

Re: best way to electrically power my car, without an engine?

Thanks for the help.... worked great. Used alligator clip leads from my multimeter to a battery/starter plug. Got my window up. Cycled some of the other switches, just because the car has sat awhile.
