Ceramic headers for stock heads with plug clearance?
Guys,
I have a stock 350 '88 IROC and am considering fitting headers. After searching the boards I think ceramic coating is a must but am concerned about spark plug clearance on a stock head.
My question is .. ' What are the best ceramic headers without air that will fit stock heads and allow me to fit/remove standard spark plugs and also comes with a y-pipe to connect to a single cat system' part no's appreciated
I'm also not sure if it is worth the expense fitting headers to a stock car as living in the UK it will cost quite a bit more than you guys pay and will the performance gain be minimal?
Look forward to your replies
Simon

There are many out there. We need to sticky questions like this. You can buy hookers coated, you can buy SLPs coated, you can buy hedmans coated. You can buy any brand uncoated and have jet-hot do the coating.

Pretty much any header is going to make it a real PITA to get your plugs off, coating or no coating. I have Edelbrock TES Headers (origionally intended for my 305) and i have to use an open ended wrench to remove/install them. Some people just resort to breaking the electrodes off to get them out. Dont let this discourage you from getting the coating. It makes the underhood temps alot lower. I dont have the coating and it gets hot under there, plus theyre rusty already even though teh car hasnt been driven in the rain yet.

Due to the long life of platinum plugs I can live with using an open ended spanner to remove the plugs. i have read that some headers need heads with angled plugs to fit. Are stock heads angled?
thanks for replying

if the headers are for your application, then they will work w/ your plugs, manufacutrers will specify weather they fit w/ angled plug heads or not.
