ever notice how exhaust rust seems to start at the welds or clamps? i just got a dynomax catback, will install it soon....it came with clamps (not stainless steel of course), and i know the mild steel clamps rust quick (as soon as the oil coating is gone). would it be helpful to prevent early rust if i painted the clamps?? i guess it would have to be high temp paint??

anyone done this or thought about it?

Well, they have the stainless steel exhaust BAND CLAMPS.
I don't know if they are rust free, but I bet they last
longer than most other regular clamps. They are expensive,
Like $8-$10 each. Summit and Jeg's carry them. Mufflex
Performance uses them on all their systems.

If you want, try the POR-15 on existing clamps. Many people
here swearby it! Just make sure you follow the directions
exactly. You can also try the exhaust silicone coating that
Summit sells. But I think you need to apply that to a new
clamp first.

Zero Rust might be easier if you don't need the really high temp stuff (which would be POR-20) http://www.zerorust.com/

Another alternative might be using ZRC ( http://www.zrcworldwide.com/galds.htm ). Or, maybe something like oxisolve (http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/p...ProductID=1122 ) that leaves a zinc coating behind.
Ive used both and both are very good at rust prevention.
Just my opinion though...

por15 is the best out there to my knowledge. you can even run it through your exaust pipe so they dont rot out
