91 RS exhuast problems

I recently bought a Flowmaster 80 series muffler for my 91 RS V8 305. When i bought the muffler i was under the impression that this would fit any camaro 82-92(I didnt think flowmaster was lying) But the muffler only came in a 2.5 inch and 3 inch inlet, and the pipe diameter on my car is 1.75 inches. I was wondering if anyone knew if this could be a problem with my car, that it may not be the stock pipe from the car which is hard for me to believe. And also if anyone could tell me any way possible to put the muffler on, right now i used muffler tape around the pipe to make it tight against the muffler but i dont think this will last very long. Thank you

Also, as a seperate question, the new exhaust that i did put on with the tape is absolutly no louder than the stock muffler. I was wondering if this would be because of the fact that it was put together so shotty or the if it could be that my catalitic converter is in extremely bad condition and wont pass inspection. Also if anyone knows what cat would make my car the loudest

Stock your car comes with 2 1/4" piping from the y-pipe all the way back. If you are measuring something other than this, it must be a replacement pipe. Also, if you have a pipe smaller than this you are killing any performance that could come from the 305. That Flowmaster 80 series you have must be for the TPI cars that got the bigger exhaust. You should just get the cat-back and it will all fit together great. Since you already have the muffler, just call up flowmaster and order the pipes.
