OMG, the Borla is obnoxiously loud.
We finished up welding the Borla up tonight and touched up some leaks on the y-pipe and then I took the car to the store. Man, it is loud and raspy with hooker shorty headers, longtube style y-pipe, no cats, and no block-off plate on the pass side tip.
I'll see if I can get some video/audio clips tomorrow as it's too late and don't want to wake the dead.
I am very pleased as this Borla with the dual square intercooled tips setup only costed me $20.
Vette aluminum heads are going on this week or weekend hopefully. should take off about 50lbs from the front end.

Not long ago I ran my shorties, and Y pipe, and where the cat was, I ran the Borla resonator. Loud and obnoxious, but I left that in place with my new mufflex catback and spintech muffler, and now it has a nice quite drone inside the cab and very good sounding outside the car.

Sounds good man.
I think one of the reason's it's sounds a bit on the raspy side though, is because your motor's a 305. I run the same exhaust on my LT1 and even without a cat, there's no raspiness at all. I know they're different motor's but even on the few L98's I've heard with the Borla, they never sounded raspy to me so the only logical exlplanation is the motor itself. Bigger cube motors sound different that's all. Have you considered running a high-flow cat? That would curb 99% of the raspiness in your exhaust note. - Not that your car's that raspy anyway. Just sayin', if it really bothers you, a high flow cat is the solution
Regardless, I still think you car sounds awesome. Borla's tips for the 4th gen Fbody's look so much better than the tips on their third gen version..
Those look mint on your car.
Congadulations. Hope you enjoy your new exhaust.
On a side not, I've gotta buy a 2nd Borla system. I have one on my 4th gen, and I want to get one for my IROC now. I think their the best sounding exhausts out there for our cars.
It's just too bad the price went up.
I'll have to pay out big-time to get another one...

I think I am going to go with a high flow cat and the hooker y-pipe since the custom y-pipe I have goes under the crossmember and really cuts down on my ground clearance.
chris, your car looks and sounds great.

not sure if its to each their own, or your just not doing something right (not sure how it can be the last one)
but i currently have a borla catback on my 84... hedman longtube headers, hi-flow cat (everyone goes wrong with the gutted bullshit) and it sounds like pure sex
----------
After watching your video, its obvious that you have the fully open plate in, they make 3 different plates for a reason, swap that out and go to a smaller one so it actually sends more of it through the muffler

Sounds good @ idle and reved up. The decel sound could sound better. It may sound better under load though. I like it though.

It'll sound better going through the muffler. They always do (particularly with no cat & headers) Save the bypass plate for the drag strip.

It has a much deeper mellower tone, and is a lot quieter. We stuffed rags into the tailpipe to divert the sound the other night since the bolts at the flange are really rusty, probably going to snap them when removed, so I have to get some new ones before I put the plates in.

cool, im thinking of going with the borla XR1 muffler, i dunno how i will do the tips if i do. Summit sells there cheapest at around $125 3in/out single pipe exit. Not sure how i wanna do that. Waiting till this winter to get my full exhaust system on my car, most of it is in the garage as of now.
On my car now i have gutted cats with a flowmaster 80 series 2.5" catback...raspy as hell. Has a nice tone part of the time but i want a more refined deep tone. May put a cat on the car also so ill see.

I am going to get a drive-by shot of the exhaust at WOT under load sometime this week. i'll see if I can borrow a dB meter from someone so you can see the numbers and we compare exhaust loudness.
I also need to get new bolts so that I can swap out the plates, the stock bolts look like they will break when I try to remove them since they are so rusty.

Sounds great. I have a 91 Z28 350ci with no cats and flowmaster 80 series muffler, sounds a litlle raspy. I was going to change mufflers but found that shifting through the auto makes it sound a world better, so I decided to change from the 700r4 to a T56.
