He's probably a dealer and wants to sell you flowtech's. I use to have a full edelbrock exhaust tes headers to cat back and it lasted for 5 yrs and then I sold it and it was still in perfect shape.

In the end its all up to you it's your money. Some people swear by this and some swear by that and bottom line its all opinion. The edelbrock's work good for me and that's all I can say.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

Had Edelbrock's on since '98. Had them on/off a few times here and there in the last few years, and sent them to JetHot 3 years ago. They've held up great. If they were garbage, I'dd never had them done by JetHot 3 years ago, I'dd have bought new.
They seem to be made nice, smooth bends, etc. Fit is perfect. My Y-pipe is made very nice as well. Better than other's I've seen.
My only advice, toss the gaskets that come with them, buy some Mr Gasket Copperseal gaskets, or something equivilent. Bought a set for @ $28-30 at Summit. Worth every penny, never had a leak since. Oh, and I bought ss header bolts too.
From what I've heard also, Flowtech is junk.

Ya flowtech is junk. My friend had flowtech and he said that he will never buy them again. I have the Edelbrock's and I have no complaints.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

I paid 100 bucks for a 92 z28 with no title that had been sitting in the woods for a year and a half with just the headers and catback no motor or tranny and i had them coated and put the whole system on my car and i love them the only problem i have had is that i used a dead soft gasket and the stock bolts keep backing out whenever i get time i will change them out so learn from me and get the good gaskets and bolts so you dont have to do it over it really sucks....good luck

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

lets see i have had edelbrocks tes, slp's and now i am running hooker long tubes. the only problem that i had was a fitment issue with the y-pipe but i think that was because of the aftermarket oil pan. I liked the edelbrock headers the best overall but wanted the long tubes.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

I also had to massage my edelbrock tes y pipe to fit under the oil pan and around the bend into the convertor. Maybe it was because I put the 86+ up set on my 84, but otherwise they are nice.

A shop ended up making a custom y for me.

Thinking about the Hooker setups now.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

I've had Edelbrock TES JetHot coated on my car for over 13 years. Love them. I'm switching to SLP now because of the 383 buildup. If Edelbrock made 3rd gen headers in 1 3/4" primaries then I would stay with them.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

i have the ti-tech coated edelbrock TES and y-pipe. it is rusted to hell. i have pictures to prove it. my car is also a summer/weekend cruiser. i would suggest painting them with hi temp paint or something, because the coating does not last like edelbrock says it does

just a heads up

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

Definetly made the right choice, i was able to get some 6 year old used TES for really cheap, put them on and they are still working great, i didnt think the Y was all that bad either.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

FWIW, my Minirammed 385 made darned-near 400 RWHP with Edelbrock TES headers in 2005. It went low 12's at 113.5 MPH in the quarter mile with them, too. So don't believe the hype about TES headers that many folks sling around this board. They do their job adequately as a nice, inexpensive header system.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

I know people running 10's and making 500 horsepower with stock exhaust manifolds in NHRA stock and super stock, but that doesnt make them the best setup. Same with your Edelcrock's.

I've posted the pics of Edelbrock vs SLP's around here quite a few years ago. Also see my sticky up top about the best headers and exhaust. I explain it all there. Their welds are horrible, blocking the ports, and the AIR tubes stick all the way into the ports, block them further. The passenger side #2 primary tube runs over the top of the others, hampering spark plug access. The y-pipe flattens together as it nears the outlet, making it smaller and more restrictive. They used to be two tubes 1 1/2" and two tubes 1 5/8", saying that made more torque and horsepower than all 1 5/8", but magically a few years ago they starting making them all 1 5/8". Their "coating" is nothing more than black paint that flakes off after a few months and gives them an ashy grey color. Just my opinion, based on seeing their headers over the last 9 years. But its your money. Most people around here go with either SLP's or Hooker's, but they are more expensive. You get what you pay for.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

I don't disagree with anything you said, Kevin However I still stick to my statement that they do their job as a nice, INEXPENSIVE header system. All that selding flash, and the AIR tubes, that is indeed true. It wasn't a problem for me though, 'cause I cleaned all that stuff out of the headers in less than fifteen minutes with the die grinder.

As for the black paint, even Edelbrock's literature that comes with the TES will say that it's there only to preserve the steel for shipment to the customer. I took mine, stripped the black paint before even bolting them on, and spent an afternoon with a sand blaster and a couple cans of VHT1600 aluminum paint. As a result, they went seven seasons without ever rusting or discoloring. It's the poor man's coating.

Hey Kev, I just got back from the dyno yesterday: The new Hooker exhaust sounds really, really cool. Hopefully the moderators will post up the new sound bytes that I sent them. The minirammed 385 made 381 RWHP and 347 ft.lbs at the wheels on a stingy Mustang dyno. It ought to be good for a 115, maybe 116 MPH quarter mile. That ought to be (an estimate) about 2 - 3 MPH faster than the TES exhaust system. So yes, you do indeed get what you pay for. I've got about $1000 into my new exhaust system.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

geez...720 dollars is a lot to pay for just headers and a y-pipe from SLP. i know they are coated, but i could think of a lot better mods i could make for 720 dollars.

Re: HEADER HELP, TES EDELBROCK

from what i can tell SLP no longer makes there headers there no longer on summits site or slps's site so saying get slp's seem to be a mute point

i just picked up a set of edelbrocks for 75 bucks once i figured out how to put the plugs back in its a snap if you cant get to it up top its simple to reach from the bottom
the really made a ton of differance something i didnt expect as everyone says there crap but minus searching for tools and removeing the stock cat
had to break a tack weld to do it everyone but then again most people say its not welded on here aswell will i have the rustfree stock y pipe and the rusty tack weld to prove it
needless to say these are not bad headers
i could have gone with out the primary going over the others but hey its not all that bad and the air tubes make for great plug wire holders
