Stainless Works 1 3/4" Long tube Header install with t-56 (amazing ground Clearance!)

So with the car off the road I decided to check out how my Stainless Works 1 3/4" LT headers will fit before I send them off to be coated. I must say I'am totally inpressed with the fit and ground clearance! Now this is using the stock heads and Polly engine mounts for fitment but wow they were pretty easy to get in. For the driver side I had to take out the oil pressure switch then I had to unbolt the tranny mount and put a little pressure to move it over just a tad, bang! she slipped right in Passanger side was pretty easy also, I had to take out my starter and let it hang from the wires then I jacked up the engine under the oil pan just a tad with out even unbolting the engine mounts. After that tinny bit of movement she slipped right in also

Now since I have a t-56 tranny I figure I would have a problem where the slave is on the driver side and this is true but I consider it a small problem. With a little bit of denting and maybe grinding of the bell housing it should work out fine, have a look in the pic's and you will see what I mean.

Over all I'am pretty happy it's going to work out and even though they were expensive as hell the ground clearance these things have more then makes up for it plus there is no problems around any of the tubes or the starter like other headers I've seen.

Looking good so far. Just wondering about the transmission support brace. Are the exhuast tubes going to dip under it?

What was the total cost of the headers? What is the plan for a flange on the driver sode since it is so close?

I'am getting the SPD long tube t-56 crossmember and going for max ground clearance, link to the the crossmember http://www.skulte.com/product_info.p...efc838a47ec165

You know I can't remember since it was like a year ago when I finally recieved it after a few month wait for them to build it but they go for $800 on hawks. For the flange there will be none since it's a slip joint header collector.

That should work. How do you have your torque arm mounted?

I'll have to get a new one that bolts to the tranny itself, thinking getting the BMR one.

After re-reading the site where you are getting the transmission support brace you can order it without the powder coating and have the torque arm mount welded to it. Might be a better way to go.

I went and had a look under the car to see how that would work out, I'am thinking it would cause to much trouble with the driver side pipe crossing through. My goal is to keep as much ground clearance as possible, I'am kind of sick of scraping my exhaust on speed bumps and my car isn't even lowered. Where I live we have a lot of trucks and our speed bumps are just terrible, plus it's embarrssing when you have someone in the car with you

Thanks for the idea though

wish mine would have fit that well around the T-56. I had to clearance the collector pretty substantially to get it to fit. other than that I'm real pleased with them.

i know its a little old, but even though they are stainless, ceramic or some other kind of thermal coating would be a great improvement to the headers. It will help keep the heat away from all the parts the headers are very close too, not to mention lowering the under-hood temps.

I really like the ground clearance of there LT's! Are they available with a 3" collector or just 2.5"?

other than the price i dont know why i havent heard of these before. Nice and tucked for lowered cars. better plug clearance, fits bigger oil pans, and is made out of stainless.

tight fit along the driver's side frame rail though, as you can see in the photos above. Mine weren't quite that bad, but did have to clearance the collector for the T-56 slave cylinder housing. And had to weld in another O2 bung.

Once I dimple the collector a bit it should move it away from the frame rail little more.

Do you have any final install pic's I would love to see them?

This is little late on the response but my current headers are Jet Hot coated and I love the way it keeps the underhood heat down so I plan to do the same with these but maybe from another company.

They are available in a 3" collector which is what I have.

Not currently. I'll be back home next week and will get some good photos then of the entire system. I'm pretty proud of the y-pipe I made up. Just need to mate it to the I-pipe and the rest of the exhaust.
