Wrapping headers
Who has any experience with the various kinds of header
wrapping products?
My goal is lowering the underhood temp. Recently, someone indicated
that his experience was that they will still radiate just as much heat.
It sounded a bit strange to me. Why bother? I can't imagine anyone
finding wrapped headers more aesthetically appealing.
Anyway, sound off guys.

Re: Wrapping headers
The wrappings are ugly, and causes premature rusting, but it does reduce the radiant heat from the headers. Coatings or wrapping are almost manditory in a car with EFI, especially the later systems with more wiring and sensors. The heat will kill things in short order.

Re: Wrapping headers
tech articles report wraps cause headers to wear out quick due to metal loss. coating is the way to go.

Re: Wrapping headers
My wrap definitely seems to reduce heat. I can actually touch my headers while its running, and I've found its a lot safer for spark plug boots to be around the wrapped headers. Now I'm not sure if cooler to touch is necessarily less heat radiated.

Re: Wrapping headers
I have to agree with MEANZ, I have had many sets wrapped over the years on different race cars including the vette that i race now and have had 0 problems. You will be amazed how much it reduces the heat under the hood.
