exhaust setup question need help getting headers tomorrow

OK here's the dealio, my dad is going tomorrow to pick up a set of used headman long tubes and y-pipe for me for like 100 bucks ,
I believe they're 1 3/4in primaries and 3in collector.

I looked up state law and i dont need a cat just a muffler, and 5 months ago I cut my stock muff off cause i was sick of every ***** lining up at every red light with me to race. So i cut it off to make them think i had a beast motor (it actually worked lol i found out laster it was illegal oops.

I have a 350 in the garage thats stock out of a 93 Chevy van 190hp, and im looking for the best setup performance wise

Exhaust #1- 4in oval pipes after first y into bullet style muffler, second y split into 2.5in circles w/ 3in

Exhaust #2- 2.75in true dual w/ bassani x-pipe going into 2.75 dual in/ 2.5 dual out magnaflow muffler

Exhaust #3- I know the straight pipe will be super loud and won't be legal. Is there any good flowing mufflers that will quiet it a good amount down but still flow as good as straight pipes, ill probably use oval pipe because of ground clearance

#1 and #2 set-ups will exit behind rear tire at an angle

Oh and forgot the purplish color is for muffler.

does the picture make any sense, or should I keep my teenage mouth shut

And sound clips with headman long tube with any exhaust would be helpful to decide also

Thanks much help appreciated

Go with option #1 AND put a cat back on.

Re: exhaust setup question need help getting headers tomorrow

I would do option one but use a crossflow muffler behind the rear axle instead of a bullet type muffler.

Mark.

Most likely the hedder primaries are 1-5/8".

My recommendation: Y-pipe into a 3" mandrel bent I-pipe along the stock route over the axle, 3" single in/single out muffler in stock location, 3" mandrel bent tailpipe on the left side.

This will be about twice the exhaust a stock LO3 needs.

Well, could say the same thing myself. Not surprised you have upgrades in mind, but it would support a fairly healthy 350 configured as I suggested. 3" single in/out typically out-flows any crossflow configuration.

Get a good, high flow cat & the effects will be minimal. Get a cheapie & it'll be like you running a mile while breathing through a straw. Bad flow & wheezing 5 minutes into it!

Ok, thanks. what do you recommend? i hear good things about the Magnaflow Hi Flow Cat is there anything as good if not better flowing?

And I'm thinking about putting a new cam in it, i love the sound of the "lopey" idle, Do you think a .596/.596 would be to large for the stock w/ headers?

If so, what size would you recommend.

Borla is nice, but not cheap!

Magnaflow makes good cats too & much more reasonably priced. I run a Magnaflow cat & aftermarket cta-back, built with a bullet-style Magnaflow muffler.

Stainless is nice, but in reality....How long are you going to keep your car vs how long will it take to rust in your area? Rust isn't an issue for me here in Texas (like the northern states) so I can't justify the price of stainless exhaust.

I'm planning on keeping the car till i keel over lol. Then maybe past it on to my kid; if he(hopefully) is a decent driver lol.

And forgive my ignorance...again lol But I'm guessing that I-pipe refers to intermediate pipe?

Lol I hear ya i was really wanting the Borla catback, but then i look at there price and about s**t a brick lol. Rust isnt that much of an issue because my car is parked from the middle of November till when ever the snow is gone. "justify the price" When i hear those words I'm guessing it waaaay more expensive than mild steel or what ever they use?

But i might change is way later on down the road because i really want to drop in a 400+Ci LSxmotor.

1-5/8" Hedmans would be okay on a mild 400, but if it's built (upgraded heads, cam, induction), they would become a limitation.

I'm in my 3rd winter with my 3" in/out Magniflow, it still looks good in spite of the salt, etc.

What type of salt mix does Colorado use, Ia uses salt mixed with sand in so type of liquid, only bad thing is it doesnt work below 20 degrees IMO kinda pointless in the midwest when 70% of winter is below 20 lol

Magnesium chloride and sand down to 20 degrees, sodium chloride and sand below 20 degrees.

North Texas gets snow.....I'm in central Texas. I had 3 hrs of snow this year & none for the last 8 years before that!

If your car doesn't see snow, save your $ for other stuff you want. I have yet to ever replace an exhaust I've put on, due to rust.

And yes...I-pipe = intermediate pipe. That is where my Magnaflow bullet muffler is. not behind the rear axle.

Re: exhaust setup question need help getting headers tomorrow

So I didn't get the headers and Y-pipe. They werent in that great of shape and plus. The guy said they wouldnt fit a t5 (i know i dont have it yet but i dont want to waste 120 bucks on headers that wont fit. But i did get a really clean set of 91/92 Z28 Rims for only 100 bucks i cant see any curb rash at all and they all hold air really well
