After blowing out the collector gaskets for the third year in a row I've decided to upgrade the exhaust on my 84. I've been running a 2.5" system with a flowmaster 40delta for the last few years. It has a basically stock converter on it and has done ok. I know I'm losing power there, but couldn't afford to deal with the problem till now.

I'm looking to go to a 3" system from the y-pipe back (Hooker shorties and their pre-fab y-pipe). Probably have my exhaust guy cut the 2.5 off the Y and weld new 3" on there and run it all the way out. I run a single tail pipe exiting on the driver's side, same as a stock V6 car would. Going for the sleeper look at much as you can with a 4" cowl induction hood.

I've done some quick searches, but was wondering if any of you guys had some info saved in your favorites folder that would save me pulling my hair out with Google. I don't mind doing the reading, so throw some articles my way! I've read the backpressure sticky and it just got my mouth wet for exhaust info! Thanks for any help guys!

BTW: Engine is stock bore 350 with flat tops, (I think, been 6 years since I built it) .035" compression height including gasket, 76cc 882's cut .010 with 1.94/1.60 valves, mild port work with a little polish on exhaust side, .489 lift comp X-treme Energy Cam, roller rockers and Hooker 1 5/8 primary shorties. Will have an Edelbrocker Torker II on it under a 750CFM 3310 Holley.

Most all aftermarket cats are much higher flowing than stock factory cats. Only brand that comes to mind is Catco.

Though kinda spendy, a lot of members here rave about the Random Technology and Magnaflow brand high-flow cats. As long as you're not in smog-**** California, they're legal in all other 49 states.

I saw the RT cats and I'm really interested in them. If they flow like they say I'd be fine with spending the money on one. Heck, I'm redoing the entire system, so why not?

That's totally true. Considering how expensive it is to put together a nice exhaust system for a 3rd gen, what's a few more bucks for a nice, high-flow cat huh?

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I'm wondering if I've killed the cat thats on there though. I need one on my Jeep and was hoping to salvage the exhaust parts from the Camaro to use on it and my K5.

I've e-mailed Magnaflow and they say expect flow increases of 10-40%... Yeah, exact information like that makes me want to buy your product that much more. I was hoping someone out there had done some tests on some different cats.
