So im gonna do a full exhaust and i just wanna see what you guys think

Im gonna get some full length headers then to cat and flowmaster series 40 all with 3" tubing, BUT im not gonna make it go out the back of the car, im just gonna have it go out the side of the car (hidden of course tho so it dosent look stupid) and its gonna be a true dual system, like each header will have its own cat and flowmaster.

So my question is what size pipe should i have come out of the flowmaster? i know 3" is to big so im not usre if i should do 2 1/2 or 2 1/4?

Im gonna eventually do NOS but for now after all this im gonna do a msd ignition and distributor then put a t56 in befor i do the NOS.

Good luck with getting two cats and two 40 series under the car. I'm sure its possible, but your ground clearance will suffer drastically. And on the ground clearance note...IIRC shorty headers will give you better clearance. Oh ya, from what I've read a T-56 X-member will give you a little more room to run the exhaust pipes.

Re: So im gonna do a full exhaust and i just wanna see what you guys think

i just put headers and duals on my camaro, 40 series flow masters and 2 1/2" pipe true duals out the back. i played with the muffler location for a couple trys and the only real place they fit are in the back about where the factory tips go, just set back in so you have room for aftermarket tips. my exhaust is kinda hacked as it is, literally 2 straight pipes running under the axle to the mufflers, but ima work on that (on a very tight budget after buying all the parts and couldnt wait to put em on lol) anywho, i had major ground clearance issues with the mufflers under the car (near the seat area) but now that they are relocated, my clearance issues were cut in half, i just have to avoid bad dips and it doesnt scrape. i do have to say though that the 40 series mufflers sound amazing on the car though, although i only have a 305, would prolly be a deeper tone with more displacement. so if you want 40 series flowmasters, your best bet is to just run the exhaust all the way out the back.

looks pretty good, no turndowns though? any annoying drone or fumes inside the car? just curious, you shoulda seen my old exhaust, when i bought it someone replaced the cat with a cherry bomb then had a turn down to make it turn towards the axle, ended right under the passenger seat and it made the inside of my car smell like exhaust when i was driving, now i got my duals, no tips yet, but they are near the rear of the car and i smell nothing now lol.

Re: So im gonna do a full exhaust and i just wanna see what you guys think

positive the car is a rust free car from florida, just a couple surface rust spots where the paint and clear are worn off but the underside is solid. door seals may not be the best, but anytime ive had any car where the exhaust doesnt exit out from underneath (aside of pickup trucks), i can usually smell it inside, could also come up from the transmission area too. idk, just a thought

Re: So im gonna do a full exhaust and i just wanna see what you guys think

I've been looking at doing a new exhaust too, i can't afford headers sadly, but I originally planned a 3" from the cat to a supper 44 and 2 1/2" twins out the back. but I was advised by my uncle who is a hot rodder to go with an 80 series muffler because the 44 wont flow as well. The muffler shop agreed that an 80 would flow better and to compensate for lost tone i would do two 3" pipes after the muffler, idk if that helps at all, but the 80 series is ment to fit our cars without any mods

Re: So im gonna do a full exhaust and i just wanna see what you guys think

actually i just figured out what im gonnna do, its gonna be loud as hell proably but i can deal with that, im going to route each header to each underside of the car and i have just enough room past the frame behind the wheel to put a walker cat and a flowmaster super 10 series befor the floorpan starts angeling down to where i wouldnt have enough clearence

Re: So im gonna do a full exhaust and i just wanna see what you guys think

did you check out the sticky at the top of the forum about pics of dual exhausts? some really good info in there if you wanna check it out, there are alot of nice systems that arent really done on a budget, however you might be able to get some ideas on how you want to route your exhaust. i plan on re-doing mine later on (funds permitting lol) and prolly using one of theyre ideas, mostly for ground clearance. there is some on there though that are done with a budget in mind. most of those just dump at the rear axle, but whatever you do use turndowns or it will be louder in the car, unless thats what your goin for.

And in my opinion stick to one size exhaust pipe. The exhaust is only gonna flow the amount of the smallest pipe so if ya go 3" to 2-1/2" just stick with 2-1/2" its cheaper and buying headers would be cheaper.

I had a buddy who did what you want 20 plus years ago - his car wasn't lowered and he scraped on every dip and bump. Ripped off the exhaust a few more times than was funny too.

Is the clearance really that low? I know some of the speed bumps in my neighborhood scrape my car now, and could be worse with newer larger exhaust, but not that significantly

Depends of the install and also the thickness of the mufflers. The car I mentioned was at stock height...

If you look at the pictures I posted, my car is at stock height and the x-pipe (below transmission crossmember/lowest point), scrapes on some of the bigger bumps or dips in the road and it just barely fits over speed bumps. By the way this is my car and what it sounds like, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLvZTKVYbSY
