Connect headers directly to cat then directly to muffler?r?

Is there a bad thing that i dont know about doing this? cause im pretty sure thats what im going to do, just a little bit of mandril bent tubing (like maby at most 3 to 5 ft befor the cat but then the muffler directly to the cat?

And on top of that that made me wonder, why dose it matter if you have crush bent tubing? like as long as its wide enough where its bent? i mean the cat and muffler are going to disrubt the flow smoothnes a **** ton more than a few riples in the pipe?

Re: Connect headers directly to cat then directly to muffler?r?

1) Crushed tubing interrupts the flow over smooth pipe - period.
2) Hi-flow mufflers don't interrupt the flow as much as they absorb (muffle) the sound waves. Cats don't interrupt the flow either, they simply 'collect' the hot gases to increase the heat and thus burn hotter to burn off emissions gases. And, the AIR pump introduces oxygen to that to make a hotter burn as well.
3) I'm not sure where under the car your going to put any kind of muffler that's not going to get torn off at the first driveway or speedbump you come across - there's no room under a 3rd gen for 3" pipes let alone a muffler. Ask anyone with 3" pipes - they ALL scrape even on a stock ride height car.
4) Legally, your exhaust can't dump under the car (on a street driven car) - has to exit out from under the edge of the car.
5) If your car is still stock, anything beyond installing headers, a higher-flow cat than stock, and a higher flow muffler than stock, is just overkill and not worth the effort or cash.

Re: Connect headers directly to cat then directly to muffler?r?

Thank you for replying, ill reply in segmants haha

the cat still interupts allot tho, i mean have you seen the inside? its a tight honeycomb, i cant see that inturupting less than crush bent tubing (altho im using mandril bent anyways)

and im going to have the exhaust flow out the side of the car like close to befor the rear wheels, im going to rout it kinda like this except with mid legnth headers,

and right now im stock but imdoing the headers so i mght as well do the whole system and im going to eventually do nos or a turbo thats why

There's no images in the post you linked to, but anyway ... I still don't know how you'll manage getting mufflers under the car where the pass floor wells are, there's just no room. And if you do, it won't be there long - a speed bump or your driveway will see to that - so don't spend much money on it!

Drive your car into a driveway, or over a speed bump - right before the rear wheel hits the bump, stop, and take a gander. At even a stock ride height, you might have 2inches of clearance between the car underside and the top of the bump. I'm pretty sure no one makes a muffler that's less than 2 inches thick - now THAT would be a definite bottleneck to flow! Your stock pipe is 2.5 inches.

I love to race cars with weird exhaust and big motors - I beat them everytime because I pick a road with a few bumps in it and they have to stop to pick up their exhaust while I cruise on!

Re: Connect headers directly to cat then directly to muffler?r?

I'd put it right after where my stock cat is? My flow master is the same thickness as my cat so I don't get what your asking? I have the same amount of room under the drivers side? And the last owner did a HORRIBAL exhaust job where what I'm gonna put in will be at least an inch higher and iv never scratched even how it is now, speed bumps and all
