Long tubes that clear T5 or T56 slave?

As the title states... are there any Long Tubes out there that clear the external slave on a T5 or T56? I have mid length Hedmans for the car that came off my other IROC... but would rather run coated Long Tubes. Another concern is ground clearance as I have sportline springs. On my LS1 SS I had it lowered with pacesetter long tubes with no clearance issues, but I'm not familiar with the third gen chassis with drop springs and LT headers.

Thanks

Re: Long tubes that clear T5 or T56 slave?

long tubes for the 3rd gen are a pain in the a$$ all together i asked this question and searched for a while about a year ago since i am redoing the drivetrain in my 86 iroc with a t5. i ended up going with a set of LT from ed quay since he makes quality parts for the 3rd gens and is local to me. they fit perfect when it comes to the engine bay, mounts, control arm mounts and everything else most long tubes seem to hit, plus the ground clearance was great with them but they were not designed with the 5 speed in mind and thats where i had all my trouble. i needed the tubes and collector down about 1-1.5 inches to clear the bell housing and slave cylinder. so i tilted the header tubes down at the flange and had to add more tubeing to the #7 tube to get it all lined up and to fit. and then the collector was almost on the ground from the angle so i cut the 3 inch pipe off the collector and angled it up level with the floor and re welded it. im only sitting on the pro kit springs as well. i had sportlines on years ago and you will have alot of issues with LTs no matter what on a lowered 3rd gen but the ed quay i say are better then most for the ground clearance but still caused issues with the t5. i have about 3 inches from my driver side collector and the ground but like i said i alltered it alot, the driver side i never measured but i would guess around 5 inches or more clearance. unless you can and are willing to modify a set of headers just stick with the mid length if you dont need them for a serious engine.

Re: Long tubes that clear T5 or T56 slave?

I have a TKO 600 and I started my build with a set of Hookers that cleared everything but I wasnt satisfied with the ground clearance as my plans are for a pretty low set-up. So I now have a set of the Hawks Stainless Works headers. Expensive but best ground clearance for long tubes that I have found but they did interfere with the slave cylinder. I ended up getting rid of the slave set-up and bracket then installing a Hydraulic Throwout bearing set-up.

i dont want to hijack the thread but what hyd throwout bearing set up did you go with? i was looking into doing that but ended up not doing it in the end but i still might later down the road. i have a tremec tko600 as well but i am using a spec stage 3+ clutch and was not confident a hyd one would beable to handle it since alot of them said for a stock or mild clutch.

Re: Long tubes that clear T5 or T56 slave?

I think it is a Tilton 600 series, the assembly replaces the existing bearing retainer on the trans. It is a 2 piece set up and seems like a quality piece. I think they have a redesign out now that is a little more cost competitive. I have a Ram Power Grip clutch with a Mcleod master cylinder. The car isnt running yet so unfortunately I cant give you any final reviews but just sitting in the garage the pedal feel seems good.

I'm running the HOWE 82870 / 82876 hydraulic TOB. Works great, lot's of clearance.

Re: Long tubes that clear T5 or T56 slave?

I think I'm going to stick with the Hedman coated mid length headers and have a 3" ORY made to accommodate them. Too many headaches with long tubes evidently... for me anyway. lol... thanks for the tips! I'm going to have a QTP electric cut out installed on the intermediate pipe as well... for that 383.
