Need help with smog system to install headers
Okay so I have been searching for a really long time! I am going to instal some headers on my 86 iroc with the tbi. The header that I have do not allow me to run my snag system because there is no air tubes that go in the headers. All I want is to be able to remove the hoses for the AIR system so I can put my headers in. I DO NOT want to go through the trouble right now of removing the pump, or the belt. My concern is not to bypass the pulley just to get those hoses out.
I DO want to keep the tubes and everything because my car is ALL original apart from ac compressor. I need somebody to show/tell me how to get rid of the tubes and hoses in my car so I can run my headers. Also I did find that if you don't remove the electric components of the smog pump there is no check engine, and that is also very important to me as well.

Re: Need help with smog system to install headers
If you would like to retain your smog system and air injection, get headers with the air pipes, last time I checked they were comparable in price and performance. Other than that, you can disconnect and attempt to remove all the old piping from the diverter valve to the upstream air connections on the headers, but the air system will not work as designed and may pop a code or three.
If you plan on being rid of the factory emissions systems, I would do it all at once and clean the engine bay up while gaining some aftermarket performance. The car will fail emissions with the air injection at the headers removed just as it would with a complete aftermarket setup under the hood, and I doubt any buyer/collector cares that much about an all original IROC but I could be wrong. I also think that any collector that pays money for an "all original" car has been to Colorado or Washington and gotten hooked on the good stuff, because there is certainly a clause in the warranty that will not cover "normal wear components, such as the bearings, brakes, bushings, clutch..." and so on. If it's 30 years old and still running, there are a lot of parts in that thing that aren't "factory original." So there is my blatant bias, take it for what it is and I hope the rest helps.
